Restless Development’s Safe Photography Project Contest 2024 for young photographers

16

Application Deadline: 19th April., 2024

Restless Development is looking for 12 young photographers to join the movement to end violence against children – positively disrupting the point of view on an issue affecting half the world’s girls and boys.

When world leaders meet in Colombia this November for the first-ever Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children, the perspectives of young people need to be central to the conversation. Restless Development will be partnering with Conference co-hosts the World Health Organization, government of Colombia, government of Sweden, UNICEF and UN Special Representative on ending violence, to connect Ministers with young people’s realities.

Requirements

  • Restless Development is looking to find 12 young creatives (aged 18-24), from all regions of the world, who will each produce a photo-essay telling the story of what “safe” feels like to them and/or other children and young people in their community.
  • Of the photographs captured by each creative, one striking ‘hero’ image will be featured in the final exhibition, taking centre stage at the historic Ministerial, with the full photo-essay published online through a global media outlet.

Benefits

For the 12 chosen participants, the following benefits await:

  • A stipend of $1250 to support your involvement in the project.
  • Comprehensive training, mentorship, and individual guidance throughout the project.
  • Exhibition of one of your images at the global Ministerial Conference in November.
  • Publication of your final photo-essay online, potentially reaching national and global audiences.

Submission Requirements

  • The pitch must be submitted by Friday, 19th April. If you have any queries regarding the Safe photography competition, please email them to:

[email protected]

  • All submissions will be reviewed by an expert panel of photojournalists, media editors, violence survivors, campaigners and young people from across and beyond Restless Development’s global network.
