About the Foundation for Human Rights (FHR)
The FHR was established in 1996 to promote and advance transformation and human rights based on the new Constitution. The FHR is a human rights organisation supporting civil society organisations in South Africa and the region that implement programmes which promote, protect and fulfil human rights.
The FHR seeks to appoint a qualified individuals for various positions, based in Johannesburg.
Position: Researcher (Fixed term contract)
Responsibilities:
Support the Programme Manager in their everyday tasks related to the Unfinished Business of the TRC Programme in particular by providing administrative, programme and research support;
Assist with conducting research on subjects related to transitional justice, international criminal law and South African law with a focus, among others, on investigations and prosecutions of apartheid-era crimes, reparations for gross human rights violations and institutional reforms;
Conduct daily media monitoring and identify news and information relevant for the Unfinished Business of the TRC Programme;
Contribute short articles to the website on the Unfinished Business of the TRC Programme;
Keep the TRC website updated with recent developments;
Assist with record-keeping in relation to the TRC cases;
Provide programme and administrative support in relation to the Programme i.e., scheduling meetings or minutes taking;
Requirements:
A postgraduate degree in law, international law, human rights, conflict or transformation studies; or related field;
Knowledge of transitional justice and human rights in the South African context;
Ability to effectively conduct research on issues related to domestic and international criminal law, transitional justice or human rights;
Excellent verbal and written communications skills;
Demonstrated ability to take initiative and responsibility for areas of work;
Fluency in English;
A sound knowledge of the Microsoft Office;
Communication and media skills will be considered an asset.
