We have an excellent opportunity for a Research Officer to work in our Economic Policy and Small States Section. The Economic Policy and Small States Section focuses on strategies to enhance the international financial and development architecture to facilitate growth by advocating for policies which address the needs and vulnerabilities of the developing membership of the Commonwealth.

The post holder will support work on aspects related to economic policy and to the development of small states. This will be done by providing research and analytical policy support; assisting with project management, including monitoring and the evaluation of projects; preparation of briefs for the Head of Section and senior officials; and updating the Commonwealth Secretariat’s website. A specific focus of this role is on the delivery of data and statistical products for the Commonwealth Secretariat, and communicating them through the use of modern technologies.

The job involves liaising with High Commissions and Ministries, as well as supervision and hands on processing and recording of administrative and financial accounting information. It also involves production of ad-hoc and periodic management information from the accounting system and other databases. The post holder is expected to work with minimum supervision, and be able to prioritise their work and manage their time effectively.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.

To be considered you will need to have an undergraduate degree in economics, econometrics, statistics, quantitative methods or closely related subject and at least two years of research or statistical experience. You will also need an ability to write well for a range of audience, and experience or demonstrable interest in development issues.
