Responsible to: Senior Research Officer
Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Senior Research Officer, the Research Officer is responsible for initiating employment and skills development research projects and collecting and analysing data related to job seekers.
Main Duties
1. Research Project Support
- Assist with market research and trend analysis in employment and skills development and the quality of jobs in the labour market.
- In collaboration with relevant stakeholders, identify and develop key policy areas relating to the labour market.
- Collect data on job seekers and the labour market in general.
- Ensure that all information/data collected is ready to be analysed.
- Compile weekly, monthly and quarterly reports summarising key findings related to the labour market.
- Solicit feedback to improve the logistics and content of data collected.
- Feed data to the Data and Information Management section.
Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s Degree in Social Sciences: Statistics, Demography, Development Studies or Sociology; OR
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences: Statistics, Demography, Development Studies or Sociology, plus two years’ experience working in labour and employment issues.
Candidates must demonstrate professional ability, initiative and competence.
Other Relevant Knowledge
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data/research tools such as Excel, SPSS and STATA.
- Strong analytical, writing and problem-solving skills and M&E.
- Understanding of labour market dynamics.
- Strong knowledge of macroeconomic and sectoral strategies related to job creation.
- Ability to evaluate development proposals.
- Knowledge of the Public Service Act, Codes of Good Practice, Rules and Regulations.
- Good communication skills.
- Knowledge of labour and employment issues nationally and internationally.
- Flexibility and adaptability.
