Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Senior Research Officer, the incumbent is responsible for conducting advanced data analysis, modelling, and forecasting to inform national policies and strategies related to Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI). The role involves the application of data science, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies to support evidence-based policy formulation and implementation.
Main Duties
- Conduct advanced data analysis, modelling, and forecasting to inform STI policies and decision-making.
- Translate complex datasets into actionable policy insights for government use.
- Support the design, implementation, and evaluation of STI programmes and initiatives using quantitative evidence.
- Design and carry out interdisciplinary research projects involving AI, ML, and IoT in alignment with national priorities.
- Contribute to the development of national frameworks and strategies on emerging technologies.
- Monitor global trends in STI and recommend suitable policy responses and adaptations.
- Collaborate with government ministries, academic institutions, and private sector partners on data-driven research and policy initiatives.
- Represent the Department in national and international forums, working groups, and technical committees related to digital technologies and innovation.
- Provide expert advice on the application of data science and analytics in the public sector.
- Develop guidelines, toolkits, and training modules on data analytics, AI, and IoT for use in policymaking and public administration.
- Publish policy briefs, working papers, and research reports to promote evidence-based policy development.
- Explore opportunities to integrate Indigenous knowledge with AI, IoT, and emerging technologies to preserve cultural integrity while fostering sustainable innovation.
- Participate in interdepartmental activities and collaborative research projects.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Job Specification
Education and Experience
- Master’s Degree in Mathematics and Statistics with at least two (2) years of relevant working experience;
OR - Postgraduate Degree in Mathematics and Statistics with at least three (3) years of relevant working experience;
OR - Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Statistics with at least five (5) years of relevant working experience.
