We have an outstanding opportunity for a Research Officer in our Economic, Youth and Sustainable Development Directorate.

Reporting to the Education Adviser, the Research Officer will contribute towards the preparation of materials for the 21st Conference of Commonwealth Ministers of Education (21CCEM) scheduled to take place in Nairobi, Kenya between 1-5 March 2021.

He/she will have responsibility to provide research and technical support in the preparation of documents, undertake editorial work on reports and papers for the conference and support the implementation of actions within the 21CCEM work programme.

Other responsibilities encompassed in this role includes (but are not limited to):

  • Research and produce short briefing papers on selected topics for the 21CCEM, including designing, conducting and analysing research tools such as interviews and or surveys as required.
  • Regularly monitor latest developments and thinking in education issues and brief the Education adviser accordingly.
  • Assist with necessary meeting logistics and administration such as drafting invitation letters and invitation of participants, development of meeting agenda, taking and disseminating meeting notes and tracking and following up agreed actions.
  • Lead on the post-meeting communication with member countries, host government and speakers/presenters by drafting thank you letters, following-up communication and agreed actions with member countries and stakeholders.
  • Support other areas of the work of the Education team as required and act as a point of contact in London for the Education team during the 21CCEM.

This assignment will be over the period of May 2020 to February 2021.

To be considered, you will need to have attained a post-graduate degree in Education, Public Administration, Development Studies, or any relevant Social Science discipline. At least three years’ experience of working in/with international development organisations. In addition, a sound understanding of project design, including project budgeting and forecasting, the use of tools such as Project Cycle Management (including the Logical Framework) and Results-Based Management (RBM) would be desirable.
