Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Lesotho. The Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Lesotho (BCMCFL), is the result of a public-private partnership between Baylor College of Medicine International Pediatric AIDS Initiative and the Government of Lesotho, and is a legal, non-profit/tax exempt organization registered in Lesotho. BCMCFL provides free paediatric and family-centered HIV and tuberculosis prevention, care, treatment and support, serving thousands of children and families affected by HIV, TB, or other child health conditions.

BCMCFL is looking for highly qualified candidates to fill in the following positions related to upcoming research implementation over the next 2 years in Maseru.

Position: Research Nursing Assistant

Duties and Responsibilities

Under supervision of the research study Site Principle Investigator/Principle Investigator (SPI/PI) and in close collaboration with the Centre of Excellence (COE) nurse manager and research nurse, the Research Nurse Assistant will:

  • Ensure clinical operations are synergistic with research efforts while maintaining quality patient care
  • Perform comprehensive clinical evaluations and appropriate management on all patients in the research nurse’s absence.
  • Properly perform specimen collection, labeling and transport (specimens to include but not be limited to: nasal swabs for COVID, blood, urine, stool, sputum)
  • Provide comprehensive education to study participants on collection of  study specimens
  • Document all interactions in the appropriate databases
  • Screen, recruit, enroll and obtain informed consent of study participants
  • Participate in cleaning and evaluation of the patient and participant information in databases as requested
  • Be able to perform home outreach as needed for sample collection

Educational Qualifications, Work Experience and Key Competencies

  • Academic Requirements: Certificate in Nursing from a recognized Training Program
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience of caring for TB-HIV affected children, adolescents and adults
  • Some prior experience with research and database management is a plus
  • Fluency in English and Sesotho
  • Maintenance of strict confidentiality and professional etiquette to sensitive study participant information.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and adhere to BCMCFL policies.
  • Must be a Team player.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
