Research Intern

1604
We have an excellent opportunity for a Research Intern, to work with our Economic Policy and Small States team within the Economic, Youth and Sustainable Development Directorate.

The Economic Policy and Small States (EPSS) Section focuses on strengthening the resilience of small and vulnerable states. It places a strong emphasis on frameworks for building the resilience of countries to external shocks, including climate resilience, as well as efforts to improve access by small states and vulnerable states to adequate international financial and technical resources to enable them to put priority resilience-building actions in place.

Reporting to the Head of EPSS Section, and working closely with other members of the team (particularly the Economic Adviser), the intern will help to maintain and update the small states database and the statistical tables for the annual publication of the Small States Economic Review and Basic Statistic publication; and support the team in general research on sustainable development issues of small states.

To be considered, you must be between the ages of 20 and 30 years and have an undergraduate degree in economics, econometrics, statistics, quantitative methods or closely related subject with 1 year research and statistical experience. Alternatively, you may hold a postgraduate degree in economics, econometrics, statistics, quantitative methods or closely related subject. Experience and/or demonstrable interest in development issues, and previously authored technical papers in peer reviewed journals; book chapters or standalone articles are desirable.

The Commonwealth is a voluntary association of 54 member governments and provides guidance on policy making, technical assistance and advisory services to Commonwealth member countries.  We support governments to help achieve sustainable, inclusive and equitable development.

To join us, you must be a citizen of a Commonwealth country and have the right to live and work in the UK for the full duration of the Internship.

Please apply by submitting a CV and cover letter. Covering letters should be structured to address the key criteria required in the person specification, giving clear examples.

The closing date is 8 September 2020, 17:00 BST.
