Research Forester – Tree Breeding ( HRL 13 )
Sappi Southern Africa – Forests requires a Research Forester – Tree Breeding to Ensure that daily Breeding Nursery and field trails and experiments are manaed effectively
This role reports in to the Research Officer
The main responsibilities of this job are:
- Plan & organise work plan activities and multitasking to ensure that research work plans are adhered to with the required level of quality.
- Implement trial layout, accurate labelling and measurement, monitoring and maintenance both at the Research station and in the field in both KZN and Mpumalanga.
- Collect, encode and check of data according to best operating practices.
- Ensure that complete records are maintained of all research & production activities.
- Solve nursery or field trial issues when required.
- Obtain quotes and complete purchase documentation according to Admin BPO’s.
- Participate in weekly meetings to ensure implementation of the monthly plan of operations
- Report on production progress weekly
- Monitor chemical storage & use management with regard to SHEQ
- Ensure good housekeeping practices using BOP / RMS guidelines to maintain / improve quality of all nursery materials (plants and equipment).
- Responsible for labour requisition, day-to-day management of own and contract staff to ensure timeous completion of weekly tasks.
- Liaise with external service providers/contractors to ensure completion of relevant activities in trials.
- Maintain and/or improve staff morale and output which includes ensuring appropriate training of subordinates to improve skills related to job performance.
The ideal candidate should have:
- National Diploma in a relevant science
- Up to two year relevant experience in nursery, plant breeding, research
- Valid EB (08) drivers License
