BackgroundThe International Treatment Preparedness Coalition (ITPC) is a global network of people living with HIV, community activists, and their supporters working to achieve universal access to HIV treatment and other life-saving medicines. ITPC is an issue-based coalition. Treat People Right is the core of our work. ITPC actively advocates for treatment access through three strategic focus areas: #MakeMedicinesAffordable, #WatchWhatMatters, and #BuildResilientCommunities

We are currently in the process of crafting ITPC’s strategic plan for the next three years. In doing so, we have the opportunity to reflect on our current mission, and explore opportunities for expansion in the sector.

Consultant Scope of Work

ITPC is seeking a business development consultant to 1) support in drafting of the business growth model, and/OR 2) identify and capitalize on growth and expansion opportunities that serve the organisation’s mandate to achieve social justice for all through health. We have identified two core areas of work, and candidates who are able to meet the requirements for either one or both of the areas of work are eligible to apply.

Core Area 1: Business Strategy

  • Conduct research to identify opportunities that may fall under the scope of ITPC, as well as new markets, taking into consideration:
    • ITPC’s strategic vision, mission, and mandate,
    • current financial status,
    • current operational model, policies and procedures,
    • existing stakeholders and global footprint, and
    • the international public health and social justice landscape.
  • Scrutinize the market to determine community needs, competitors’ activities, and promising funding avenues that have not yet been explored.
  • Inspect the organisation’s finances to identify trends and set reasonable targets.
  • Assist the team in identifying current business weaknesses and challenges and determine relevant solutions.
  • Develop a growth strategy/model alongside the Executive Director and Senior Leadership Team, which is focused on both revenue growth and mission alignment.

Core Area 2: Business Development Consulting

  • Craft short and long-term, action plans in consultation with the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Craft and communicate marketing plans in alignment with the growth strategy, which may include:
    • input into website content,
    • publication of the strategic plan,
    • social media presence,
    • company profile, offering brochures, tailored presentation pitches, etc.,
    • appearances at networking/collaboration events.
  • Link ITPC’s growth strategy to potential investor opportunities.
  • Arrange business meetings with prospective stakeholders and facilitate discussions for potential collaboration/partnership/revenue growth.
  • Accompany relevant experts in prospective meetings and presentation pitches, and support the organisation from a business standpoint.
  • Report on progress of the growth strategy and provide solutions for refinement of the model.

Minimum Requirements

  • Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Quantitative Finance, or related field. MBA qualification is advantageous.
  • Extensive experience (10+ years) as a business development consultant/manager, working alongside senior leaders and executive directors to capitalize on growth opportunities, with a proven track record of successful business development.
  • Sound experience in the non-profit sector, with acute awareness of the public health sector, including insight into macro-economic dynamics such as social, economic, political and technological climates.
  • Sound business acumen and strategic thinking skills.
  • Complete understanding of contemporary market trends.
  • Excellent networking, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to interpret and adapt to ever-changing needs of the organisation.
  • Sound communication and facilitation skills.
  • Proficiency in English.
