JOB SUMMARY
Under the general of the Senior Reporter, the Reporter is responsible for collecting news material, translating and writing news.
MAIN DUTIES
Conducts interviews to formulate news material
Translates news material to both Sesotho and English
Writes news
RESPONSIBILITY:
FOR WORK OF OTHERS:
The incumbent is required to work with others in the newsroom
FOR PROPERTY (EQUIPMENT, MATERIALS AND FINANCES)
The job places on the incumbent the responsibility to ensure that LENA resources including equipment under his/her care is kept in the safe custody. For example, the reporter takes the responsibility of licking the newsroom and other places where LENA equipment and news material is kept.
FOR EFFECTS OF ERRORS
The incumbent is responsible for errors that may be committed while collecting, translating and writing news.
SAFETY OF OTHERS
This factor is minimal in the job
COMPLEXITY
AUTHORITY FOR DECISION-MAKING:
The Incumbent has authority to make decisions on the newsworthiness of the news material he/she collects.
PROBLEM SOLVING:
The incumbent may occasionally have to clarify what they wrote if there is a query.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
The incumbent is expected to work independently and report to the Senior Reporter/ Subeditor daily for editorial meetings.
DEXTERITY:
This factor is not applicable in the job
CONTACTS
The job requires the incumbent to make contacts with:
- Senior Reporters for assignments
- Members of other Departments and Sections when discussing job related issues
- Members of other Ministries, District offices, Organizations and Public about collection and dissemination of information
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Diploma in Journalism or Mass Communication or any other related field.
