Introduction

This is a leadership role which will be based at Letseng Diamonds Site in Lesotho reporting to the Engineering Manager on site. The site-based work roster will apply but may vary depending on immediate site production requirements. Preference will be given to Lesotho Citizens.

Description

The purpose of this role is to deal with the estimation, prevention and management of high levels of “lifetime” engineering uncertainty and risk failure that could adversely affect plant or business operations. The broad primary role includes loss elimination, risk management and life cycle asset management

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working with the Engineering team to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations
  • Responsible for adhering to the life cycle asset management (LCAM) process throughout the entire life cycle of new assets
  • Optimizing plant asset OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness)
  • Conduct and prepare Pareto Analyses of equipment and plant downtimes
  • Advise on the installation specifications along with commissioning plans
  • Developing acceptance tests and inspection criteria
  • Participating in the final inspection of new installations
  • Define, design, develop, monitor and refine an asset maintenance plan with the primary focus on proactive preventive maintenance
  • Effective utilization of predictive and other non-destructive testing methodologies designed to identify and isolate inherent reliability problems
  • Providing input to a risk management plan that will anticipate reliability related and non-reliability-related risks that could adversely impact plant operations
  • Developing engineering solutions for repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect plant operations. This includes capacity, quality, cost or regulatory compliance issues
  • Develop, implement and monitor Condition Based Maintenance Programs
  • Ensure the Engineering SharePoint libraries are managed for communicating standards, policies, notes and equipment manuals
  • Share findings and opportunities from maintenance assessments and benchmarking exercises
  • Conducting data analysis using techniques such as:

            o Statistical process control
            o Reliability modeling
            o Prediction Fault tree analysis
            o Reliability prediction and improvement
            o Reliability culture / human errors / human factors
            o Reliability and availability programme plan

  • Use of Six Sigma (6σ) methodology
  • Conducting root cause analysis (RCA) and root cause failure analysis (RCFA)
  • Failure reporting
  • Analysis and corrective action system (FRACAS)
  • Working with the production team to perform analyses of assets including:
  • Asset utilization
  • Equipment effectiveness and remaining life cycle.
  • Perform any other relevant duties as per operational requirements.

  • Identify hazards and risk while performing daily tasks and maintenance and take preventative measures

  • Ensures adherence to the company’s environmental management program and objectives are implemented according to statutory legislation and the Strategic Management Plan

People Management & Training

  • Function as a member of a commissioning team and co-ordinate project activities or provide input in terms of projects resource allocation.

  • Train, guides, informs and generally counsels in matters of technical knowledge and trade skills, to any team member allocated to him for training purposes.
  • Manage Individual career development plans, appraises progress and provide training and coaching to develop subordinates to their full potential
  • Ensure that information is properly and effectively communicated to relevant parties (e.g to employees, & Senior management).

  • Manage and control the allocation of funds to ensure adherence to approved budgeted expenditure
  • Assist in compiling the Engineering budget by providing information based on operational and resource requirements

Quality and/or Quantity outputs

  • Ensure adherence and compliance to Minopex SHEQ and engineering standards in all Minopex areas of responsibility.

Stakeholders

  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to ensure adherence to operational and client requirements
  • Builds relationships across the Minopex pipeline by sharing business information and knowledge
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external role players (client and contractors) to influence decision making or interpretation in favour of the Minopex group
  • Monitor adherence by contractors to the agreed scope of work according to service level agreements, to ensure operational optimisation
  • Liaise with workplace forums to maintain harmony between various company departments

Qualification Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Maintenance Engineering
  • ECSA Registration
  • Post Graduate qualification in Asset Management
  • Qualification in Project Management would be beneficial

Experience and Skills Requirements:

  • 10 years’ experience as a Mechanical or Maintenance Engineer in the mining industry with 3 years’ experience in asset management
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical engineering, asset integrity and reliability
  • Good understanding of maintenance work management processes
  • Sound working knowledge of the different types of mining assets
  • Knowledge of relevant Safety and Mining legislation
  • Sound knowledge of applicable mining policies and procedures
  • Understanding of Engineering best practices and new technologies related to Engineering principles and processes
  • Advanced computer skills, with emphasis on condition monitoring software
  • Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and the tools associated with failure detection
  • Multi-tasking approach
  • Good communication skills
