PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

Reporting directly to the recovery manager, the purpose of this position is to enhance diamond recovery effectiveness by overseeing technical operations, devising and implementing maintenance strategies in the recovery plant.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS & RELATED EXPERIENCE

  • Bsc / BEng in Mechatronics, Electrical and Computer Engineering or equivalent is required.
  • Exposure and experience in a diamond mining environment is an advantage.
  • Experience with PLC’s and HMI programming is necessary.
  • Experience programming relational Databases and Realtime databases is required.
  • At least 1 year experience developing control systems or working with a systems integrator.
  • Experience with embedded systems is an added advantage.
  • Experience with OOP in any of C++, python, Golang or Java at an advanced level is required.
  • Experience with Industrial Networking protocols such as Modbus, TCP/IP, ProfNet is required.
  • Frontend development exposure is an added advantage.
  • At least 2 years’ experience maintaining field sensors and actuators.
  • Drivers Licence(Code B) is essential.
  • Experience with XRF and XRT technology is an added advantage.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  • Organize resources to meet recovery maintenance and project objectives.
  • Establish and define work procedures and practices to establish acceptable standards of outputs and performance.
  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities and follow-up to ensure actions are taken.
  • Ensure performance levels are maintained to achieve recovery targets through regular performance assessments.
  • Diagnose faults on plant equipment and carry out repairs.
  • Plan extensions and modifications to existing infrastructure.
  • Examine, test and repair controls and equipment.
  • Comply with SHE and Security.
  • Participate and contribute to SHE meetings and events.
  • Participate and initiate toolbox talks as required.
  • Ensure SHE standards and programs are implemented and adhered to by recovery staff and contractors
  • Actively involved in recovery SHE meetings.
  • Ensure proactive steps are taken to secure the product by reviewing procedures, consulting security, suggesting improved systems and implementing.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Skilled in complex problem solving that illustrate competency in applying engineering methods.
  • Sound troubleshooting and maintenance of electronic systems.
  • Must understand data analysis as applied in electronics and be able to apply corrective measures.
  • Must have budgeting and cost control skills as applied in the engineering science.
  • Must have strong project management skills, must understand CI/CD pipeline or agile project management.
  • Sound knowledge of maintenance management paradigms. i.e preventative, corrective and predictive.
  • Knowledge of ORM’s as applied in database management.
  • Reporting skills

The recovery plant is a red area, successful candidates will be expected to go through necessary integrity tests. Candidates will also be expected to illustrate skills and competencies in the programming skills required in a form of a proctored test.
