RECOVERY MECHANICIAN – PATERSON CU (1 x Vacancy)

PURPOSE: Supervisory role responsible for the inspection and maintenance of the Final Recovery and Sorthouse equipment (inclusive of the Audit plant equipment). This job function requires detailed knowledge of the Final Recovery Plant equipment inclusive of XRT and Flowsort sorters to ensure that productivity and efficiency targets are met.

MAIN OUTPUTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Optimize the equipment availability through regular inspections and maintenance of the Recovery & Sorthouse equipment.
  • Liaises closely with the Recovery Operators and Engineering department to ensure coordinated maintenance activities for the Final Recovery & Audit plants to ensure performance reliability (ensuring well-maintained capital assets at all times). 
  • Maintain a proper record of tools and equipment checklists and registers in accordance with the standards.
  • Ensure that the X-Ray sorters (XRTs and Flowsorts) spares are kept at prescribed levels.
  • Assist the outsourced XRT (TOMRA & Steinert) and Flowsort technicians with the required maintenance and repairs.
  • Work closely with the Recovery Operators regarding daily Flowsort and XRT tests to ensure operational efficiency.
  • In all areas recommend and drive out approved changes in standards, work methods and process modifications to improve performance, efficiency and productivity.
  • Advise the Recovery & Sorthouse Superintendent of all current or potential problems, including but not limited to; personnel, processing quality and efficiency.
  • Perform Recovery administrative duties in relation to production and maintenance schedules.
  • Record relevant operational data as per the procedure and report to the Recovery & Sorthouse Superintendent.
  • Provide maintenance plan, schedules as well as feedback for all Recovery and Sorthouse Equipment. 

Desired Experience & Qualification

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Diploma/ Degree in a relevant engineering field (Electrical/Mechanical).
  • Operator or maintenance certificate on Flowsorts diamond sorters, TOMRA XRTs or Steinert XRTs.
  • More than 3 years’ experience of Final Recovery Plants in specific control and instrumentation or mechanical aspects.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detailed knowledge of the Recovery plant operations and maintenance.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
