for the following vacant position tenable in the Ministry of Environment and Forestry:


Position: Range Resource Technical Officer
Department: Range Resources Management
Division: Planning and Management
Grade: E
Responsible To: Range Management Officer
Location: Qacha’s Nek


JOB SUMMARY
The Range Resource Technical Officer is responsible for identifying denuded areas, procuring and overseeing grass reseeding and maintenance, and compiling work plans and activity reports.


MAIN DUTIES

  1. Identification of Denuded Areas
    • Surveys rangelands to identify degraded areas
    • Delineates denuded zones on contour maps for area calculations
    • Assesses levels of degradation for decision-making
    • Conducts community gatherings to agree on improvement measures
  2. Procurement of Grass Seeds
    • Identifies appropriate grass seed species for rehabilitation
    • Facilitates procurement of seeds for over-seeding purposes
  3. Re-seeding and Maintenance
    • Leads community-based reseeding activities for range reclamation
    • Oversees and ensures proper maintenance of reseeded areas
  4. Work Planning and Reporting
    • Prepares work plans for approval by the immediate supervisor
    • Compiles and submits reports on completed activities

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma in Forestry and Resource Conservation or Management
    OR
  • Certificate in Agriculture with three (3) years experience as a Range Assistant

OTHER REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Mapping skills
  • Plant identification
  • Knowledge of over-seeding procedures
