for the following vacant position tenable in the Ministry of Environment and Forestry:
Position: Range Resource Technical Officer
Department: Range Resources Management
Division: Planning and Management
Grade: E
Responsible To: Range Management Officer
Location: Qacha’s Nek
JOB SUMMARY
The Range Resource Technical Officer is responsible for identifying denuded areas, procuring and overseeing grass reseeding and maintenance, and compiling work plans and activity reports.
MAIN DUTIES
- Identification of Denuded Areas
- Surveys rangelands to identify degraded areas
- Delineates denuded zones on contour maps for area calculations
- Assesses levels of degradation for decision-making
- Conducts community gatherings to agree on improvement measures
- Procurement of Grass Seeds
- Identifies appropriate grass seed species for rehabilitation
- Facilitates procurement of seeds for over-seeding purposes
- Re-seeding and Maintenance
- Leads community-based reseeding activities for range reclamation
- Oversees and ensures proper maintenance of reseeded areas
- Work Planning and Reporting
- Prepares work plans for approval by the immediate supervisor
- Compiles and submits reports on completed activities
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Diploma in Forestry and Resource Conservation or Management
OR - Certificate in Agriculture with three (3) years experience as a Range Assistant
OTHER REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Mapping skills
- Plant identification
- Knowledge of over-seeding procedures
