MSc Degree-Seeking Scholarships (24-Month Research Mobility)
RAMDDA Project – Drug Design and Discovery
The RAMDDA (Research and Academic Mobility for Drug Design and Discovery in Africa) Project invites applications for five (5) MSc degree-seeking research scholarships.
These scholarships support a two-year research mobility programme in advanced areas of drug design and discovery, aiming to:
- Strengthen postgraduate research capacity
- Promote inter-institutional collaboration
- Enhance advanced training in experimental and computational chemistry across Africa
Scholarship Duration
- 24 months per scholarship
- Successful candidates will be awarded an MSc degree from the host institution
Scholarship Benefits
Each scholarship includes:
- Monthly living allowance: €890
- Full tuition fee coverage
- Health insurance for the duration of the programme
Note:
- The scholarship is a study grant and does not constitute an employment contract
- Concurrent EU-funded scholarships are not permitted
Eligible Research Areas
Applicants must propose research aligned with drug design and discovery in the following institutions:
- Botswana International University of Science and Technology (Botswana)
- Organic chemistry
- Organic synthesis
- Natural product chemistry
- Bioinorganic chemistry
- University of Ghana (Ghana)
- Organic chemistry
- Natural product chemistry
- University of the Free State (South Africa)
- Organic chemistry
- Organic synthesis
- Natural product chemistry
- Phytochemistry
Interdisciplinary proposals are accepted only if clearly focused on drug discovery applications.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be African nationals and residents
- Conduct research relevant to drug design, discovery, or drug delivery
- Demonstrate that proposed research contributes to their MSc thesis
- Be available for full-time study (24 months) at the host institution
- Meet postgraduate admission requirements of the host university
- Not apply to a university in their home country
- Example: Ghanaian applicants cannot apply to University of Ghana
- Not hold concurrent EU-funded scholarships
Required Application Documents
Applicants must submit the following:
- Completed RAMDDA Scholarship Application Form
- Copy of passport (biodata page)
- Research proposal (maximum 3 pages using RAMDDA template)
- Curriculum Vitae (maximum 4 pages)
- Academic transcripts
- Motivation letter (maximum 1 page)
- Proof of residence (National ID)
- Language test results (if available)
- Certificate of work experience (if available)
- List of publications or conference presentations (if available)
- Proof of belonging to a disadvantaged group (if applicable)
- Any additional supporting documents
Selection Criteria
Applications will be evaluated based on:
- Academic background and research potential
- Scientific quality and feasibility of the research proposal
- Relevance to drug design and discovery
- Alignment with RAMDDA objectives
- Contribution to capacity building and collaboration
