RADIATION PROTECTION AGENCY BOARD MEMBERS

Applications are invited from suitably qualified Basotho Nationals to serve on the Radiation Protection Agency Board as members in the portfolios of Financial Management, Medical Radiology, Nuclear Science and Corporate Law.

The Radiation Protection Agency has been established by the Radiation Protection Agency Act No. 7 of 2018. Its main objectives are to ensure that radiation sources and other radioactive materials are used for beneficial and peaceful purposes; and to provide for protection of human health and the environment against harmful effects of ionizing radiation.

The Radiation Protection Agency Board is established as a governing body for the Agency. Its main functions are to ensure proper management of the resources of the Agency; and oversee implementation of the Radiation Protection Agency Act.

Members of the board must be fluent in English and are required to have competence in analytical, communication, teamwork and management/leadership skills as well as some knowledge of the operating environment at MEF.

Renumeration of Members of the Board will be market related and shall cover preparation and attendance at the Board meetings, sub-committee work and ad hoc work such as special delegated tasks or investigations. Members of the Board will be fully reimbursed for authorised expenditure incurred in the performance of their duties. Typical expenses include travel, accommodation, telephone secretarial and courier services.

Specific requirements for each of the portfolios are;

  • Financial Management

One person who:

  • Holds a degree in financial management from a recognized university
  • Has proven business management or other relevant professional experience
  • Has served in a position of senior management for a period of at least six years; and
  • Is a member of a recognized professional body.
  • Medical Radiology

One person who:

  • Holds a degree in medical radiology from a recognized university; and
  • Has professional experience of at least three years in a medical radiology environment.

Membership of a recognized relevant professional body will be an added advantage.

  • Nuclear Science

One person who:

  • Holds a degree in nuclear science or technology from a recognized university; and
  • Has professional experience of at least three years in a nuclear science or technology environment.

Membership of a recognized relevant professional body will be an added advantage.

  • Corporate Law
  • One person who:
  • Holds a degree in the corporate law from a recognized university
  • Has proven professional experience; and
  • Has served in a position of senior management for a period of at least six years; and
  • Is a member of a recognized professional body.

Experience in radiation matters will be an added advantage.
