You ensure quality in the factory and are responsible for meeting quality targets. You are fully responsible for the people, machinery and the identification and elimination of quality losses and problems in the department. You grow your team’s capabilities and coordinates departmental activities in accordance with corporate standards, local requirements and ISO standards. In this role, you report directly to the plant manager with dotted line responsibility to corporate quality.

How you will contribute

You will ensure that all quality objectives, goals and targets in the factory (including regional and global commitments) are met. You will develop and track your department’s budget and eliminate losses. With your team, you will conduct regular plan-do-act-check assessments to plan how targets will be met, executing the plan and periodically checking and taking action to stay on track. In addition, you will ensure that there is strict adherence with all appropriate laws, food safety quality standards and consumer requirements of all manufactured products and manage crisis situations internally and externally in ways that support the company’s image, policies and business. As a people leader, you are responsible for recruitment and structuring of the department to ensure there are sufficient resources to deliver on plant objectives, set and assess performance goals, and coach and mentor team members.

Education / Certifications:

  • Applicants must have a Grade 12.
  • National Diploma in Quality management and Food Hygiene or related fields. Working knowledge of quality management systems. Sound Knowledge of FMCG environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a Quality Management Systems position /Similar Position.
  • ISO 14001& 9001:2015, FSSC 22000, SANS1841, PAS220 and OHSAS 18001 management systems knowledge, internal auditing qualification and Knowledge in religious laws (Halaal and Kosher).
  • Working knowledge of ISO based system implementation and management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, presentation, facilitation, project management, pro-activeness, good decision-making and change management are also essential to the performance of this position.
  • Project management and managing multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge in IL6S Advantageous.

Job specific requirements:

In line with the job purpose, key outputs of this job will entail the following:

  • Develop and review Quality procedures to align with MDLZ Quality Policy, ISO9001, SANS1841, FSSC22000 and other certification, regulatory and Global requirements.
  • Cascades to manufacturing new or revised Quality Policy, Specifications, and strategies, identified gaps and drives implementation of corrective actions to ensure compliance to standards.
  • Monitor’s compliance of the Plant to Mondelez International, ISO9001, SANS1841, FSSC22000 standards, Woolworths, NIHT and other applicable certification and regulatory standards applicable to Mondelez through the conduct of Internal Audit.
  • Check’s implementation effectiveness, identifies gaps, taking corrective actions, recommends closure of non-conformances and provides recommendation for improvement.
  • Coordinate completion of Quality related audits from internal and external parties within all relevant departments. This includes ensuring closure of all identified non- conformances.
  • Leads the HACCP and food safety programs at the Port Elizabeth site.
  • Represent the PE plant in all areas of HACCP plan design, implementation, and effectiveness
  • Maintains and controls the QCMS documentations in Plant (e.g., HACCP Plans, QP, Quality Plans, Procedures and Work Instructions, Reference Standards, etc.)
  • Coordinate and plan the Management Review process to appraise management of quality status.
  • Conducts periodic Quality systems training on Quality System procedures and other QCMS related training requirements.
  • Conducts verification on compliance of Plant Operations records to established procedures on records identification, storage, protection, retrieval, retention time and disposal.
  • Maintain CAPA program as a central pool of corrective/preventative action and ensuring the completion of defined action. This includes management of customer and consumer complaints.
  • Drive risk management and continuous products/process quality and sanitation improvement activities.
  • Passionately drives IL6S agenda on site, align all systems with the IL6S Methodology and forms part of the cultural transformation to Quest for the best.
  • Consistent self-development to ensure alignment to new technologies and processes.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Quality Manager
