VACANCY NOTICE

APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED FROM SUITABLY QUALIFIED CANDIDATES for the following vacant position tenable in the Ministry of Natural Resources, within the Lesotho Lowlands Water Supply Scheme Unit (LLWSSU). The LLWSS is a bulk water supply project designed for the lowlands of Lesotho.

Job Title: Public Relations Officer
Grade: Special Grade
Number of Positions: 1 (One)
Responsible to: Director – LLWSSU
Tenure: 2 Years

Job Summary

The plans developed under the Scheme need to be explained and “sold” to the communities affected and at large — positively, negatively, or not at all — by the program. The costs and benefits need to be explained to them to ensure that their expectations of the project are realistic. The Officer will visit the communities to verify that all findings of any surveys are accurate and have been completed.

The Officer will also work with the Environmental & Social Impact Manager to facilitate permanent and temporary easements, land access, associated costs, and compensation.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Planning publicity strategies and campaigns
  • Writing and producing presentations, articles, press releases, and social media posts
  • Designing or project managing the production of visual communications and digital content
  • Dealing with enquiries from the public, the press, and related organisations
  • Organising and attending promotional events such as press conferences, open days, exhibitions, tours, and visits
  • Speaking publicly at interviews, press conferences, and presentations
  • Providing clients/colleagues with information about new promotional opportunities and current public relations campaigns’ progress
  • Analysing media coverage
  • Commissioning or undertaking relevant market research and data analysis
  • Coordinating and analysing the success of online advertising
  • Keeping records of progress, budgets, and timescales, and keeping clients/colleagues up to date with these
  • Responsible for designing or project managing the production of visual communications and digital content and dealing with enquiries from the public, the press, and related organisations

Knowledge and Skills / Competencies

  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Presentation skills
  • The ability to prioritise and plan effectively
  • Digital media skills, such as graphic design, video editing, and blog administration
  • Social media management experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Qualifications and Experience

Degree in Business or Media Studies, Marketing, or Social Sciences with at least 10 years’ working experience in a similar position.
