Applications are invited from suitably qualified and interested local individuals to apply for the following position at National Drug Service organization (NDSO) Mafeteng, in the Administration Department. Required Minimum Qualifications:

First Degree in Public Relations, Journalism or Corporate Communications or Mass Communications.

Required Minimum Experience:

Three years’ Experience as a Public Relations Officer or any related employment

Type of Contract:

Two years contract. Renewable when the Performance Standards have been met satisfactorily.

Summary of the Job Description

The Public Relations Officer will be responsible for assisting the Office of the General Manager to manage the Public Relations Obligations of the National Drug Service Organization (NDSO).

Key Responsibilities:

The Public Relations Officer’s primary responsibilities include:

2.1 Gathering Information within NDSO.

The Public Relations Officer shall:

2.1.1 Liaise with the Heads of Departments within NDSO to collect, analyse and prepare information within different Departments that the General Manager shall consider for Public Information.

2.1.2 Liaise with Different Departments within the Organization to collect, analyze and prepare information that the Office of the General Manager requires in order to be abreast with the activities and Performance of the Organization.

2.1.3 In consultation with the relevant Offices within NDSO, Organize and where necessary assist with chairing of the proceedings within NDSO.

2.1.4 In liaison with the standing or Ad hock Committees appointed within NDSO assist the Office of the General Manager to prepare, Organize and conduct Public Events hosted by NDSO or those events that NDSO shall be participating. These include, but not limited to, preparation of relevant speeches, collaborating with relevant stake holders and reporting on the whole event.

2.2 Gathering Information From the Public.

 The Public Relations Officer shall:

2.2.1 Gather information from the Public, the Media, the Government or anywhere that relates to the Organization, the Ministry of Health or the Government at large that may have an impact on the activities of NDSO.

2.2.2   Report the information gathered in 2.2.1 above to the Office of the General manager and where possible recommend appropriate action that should be taken by NDSO.

2.3          Dissemination of the Relevant Information to the Public.

              The Public Relations Officer shall:

2.3.1      With the approval of the General Manager, identify relevant media houses (Radio stations, Print Media, Social Media etc) where NDSO information is gathered in 2.1.1 above shall be disseminated.

2.3.2      With the approval of the General Manager, prepare a regular slot within the identified Media house where relevant public information from NDSO can be disseminated on a regular basis (weekly, biweekly, monthly as may be decided).

2.3.3      In consultation with the relevant offices within NDSO, including that of the General Manager, prepare Media Statements or representation in order to address the queries, enquiries or any information that the Public and the media may want to know about NDSO.

2.4          General.

               The Public Relations Officer shall in general advise the Office of the General Manager on any Public related information or activities that shall benefit NDSO, the Public, NDSO stake holders and its Customers.

2.5          Performance Standards.  NDSO shall evaluate the Performance of the Public Relations Officer in terms of the Performance Evaluation Criteria that shall be determined by the General Manager in liaison with the relevant offices within the Organization and outside the Organization
