Interactive Research and Development South Africa (IRD SA NPC) is a South African Section 21 not-for-profit entity and an affiliate of Interactive Research and Development Global (IRD Global), and has fully operational offices in Johannesburg, Pretoria (Gauteng) and in Durban (KwaZulu-Natal).

Position Summary

The Public Health Technical Writer will work closely with the IRD SA TB LON program staff to write, edit and package a variety of technical material into professional products that showcase IRD SA’s work and achievements. Working with program staff, the Technical Writer should also provide guidance on packaging technical material into communications products for donors and other external audiences and dissemination of these publications in online and print forms.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Technical Writer Consultant is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate review and editing of supplied content (to be written by the IRD SA TB LON team), reviewing documents for factual correctness, scientific soundness, consistency, clarity and grammar. S/he will work with the technical staff to develop, draft, edit, and finalize documents in English, including weekly, quarterly, and annual reports, as well as other deliverables as assigned.

Specific objectives and duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Collect inputs from technical staff for weekly, quarterly, and annual reports;
Provide one-on-one training to technical staff on USAID-style report writing;
Provide support in editing content to be placed on project website and/or Facebook page;
Support drafting and editing of Success Stories;
Coordinate with technical and operations staff for any graphics or editorial support required;
Draft reports compliant with USAID branding requirements and IRD SA standards;
Finalisation of the TB LON Annual Report;
Editing quarterly donor reports;
Writing project technical briefs and case studies; and
Any other tasks assigned by the TB LON Technical Team and Country Director.
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing/Public Relations /Public Health;
Master’s in Public Health
Knowledge and 5yrs working experience in the Public Health sector as a Technical Writer
Proven ability as a writer and sound knowledge on writing technical briefs
At least two years’ previous experience working with international NGOs or donors, such as World Bank, Global Fund, CDC, USAID-funded projects is preferable;
Verbal and written communication and organizational skills;
Detailed and deadline-oriented;
Strong team player with a positive attitude; and
Flexible to work under pressure and in response to changing needs.
