African Solutions to African Problems (ASAP)’s mission is to connect rural women and youth to their own power to identify challenges and create positive change in their communities: to support holistic care for children, to strengthen local food security, and to increase household income and community resilience. The Psychosocial Support (PSS) Officer leads and executes counselling and PSS intervention to OVC, Care givers and GBV survivors.

ASAP invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the above contracted position for three days a week in Matatiele, Eastern Cape.

Requirements include:

A tertiary qualification in psychology/ Social Work, Auxiliary Social work or experience in child care community work and counselling
At least 3 years relevant experience in the same or similar environment.
Fluent in a local language preferably Xhosa/ Sotho
Ability to work within a team as well as independently
People focused
Excellent communication (verbal and written) and relationship building skills
Good Listener
Attention to detail and ability to handle pressure
A driver’s license is a MUST

Responsibilities include:

Providing psychosocial support to GBV Survivors, caregivers and OVCs
Consulting with appropriate program support personnel (e.g., child development instructor/social worker) to assure needs of infants, children and parents are being addressed
Developing and updating program procedures to ensure compliance and appropriateness
Confidence building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders in the community
Liaising with CBOs and groups to identify crisis cases and referring them to the relevant Government bodies
Affirming parenting techniques to care givers
Developing and maintain case files for each beneficiary who has been attended to
Developing and maintain relationships with Programme support personnel or departments
Providing feedback to CBOs on progress made on any pending cases and documenting the progress in the follow up OVC assessment records
Developing and maintain evaluation procedures
Providing mentorship for the Care givers at the centres
