Job DescriptionTeachers face classrooms of students who have a huge range of capabilities and challenges. It is these capabilities and challenges that Renaissance has been analyzing for over 30 years, amassing more than 2.8 billion real-world data points showing how students build skills and achieve mastery.

The Psychometrician will advance the state-of-the-art in educational assessment through contributions to the development of Renaissance computerized adaptive tests (CAT) and other assessment instruments. Specifically, the Psychometrician will design, build, research, and evaluate the Renaissance Star assessment suite to maintain high standards and ensure adherence to the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing. This position will provide every facet of psychometric support including but not limited to item analyses, DIF analyses, scaling, linking/equating, reporting, and conducting norming studies. Continually, this position will also evaluate and document the reliability and the evidence of validity of Star scores. Additionally, the Psychometrician may interact with other Renaissance solutions such as the classroom practice solutions ( Accelerated Reader and Accelerated Math).


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Apply expert judgment and state-of-the-art methodology and analytic techniques to the development of new assessments, and the maintenance and improvement of existing ones, that maintain high standards and adhere to the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing.
  • Apply item response theory (IRT) as well as traditional psychometric procedures for all purposes related to both computerized adaptive and conventional tests. Applications will include test design; development of score scales; analysis of psychometric properties of test items and test scores; evaluation of test reliability, measurement error, and test and score validity; and developing representative test score norms.
  • Plan and conduct research studies, including item analysis, item difficulty calibration, differential item functioning analysis, scaling, scale linking/test equating, test validity and test norming studies.
  • Document the purpose, design, methodology, results and conclusions of research in technical reports and other publications, including conference papers and refereed journal articles.
  • Make technical presentations on the work to internal staff; managers and executives; external audiences such as school district and state administrators; and audiences at national and international professional conferences.
  • Interact with other Renaissance solutions, such as classroom practice solutions (e.g., Accelerated Reader and Accelerated Math.)
  • Conform with all safety rules and use safety equipment as appropriate to the role

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree (Ph. D.) psychometrics, statisics, data science, or a related field, AND
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years’ relevant practical experience working in a K-12 Ed Tech Company
  • OR Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
  • Proficient in use of application software for writing, quantitative analysis, presentations, and database access and management, such as MS Office and Google Docs
  • Proficient with application of statistical software packages (e.g. SAS/Stat, SPSS, Winsteps, and programming applications such as R) to psychometric analysis problems.
  • Spanish fluency is a plus!
