Job Title: Psychiatric Senior Nursing Officer

Purpose of the job
Responsibilities include Planning, organizing, co-coordinating and directing of psychiatric unit activities as well as implementation of psychiatric care activities. The incumbent is also responsible for supervision of staff under him/her. He/She will be responsible for screening of mental health diseases patients, gender-based violence clients and any other clients / patients that need counseling and his/ her attention. He/ She will provide prescriptions of relevant medication within his her scope of work. The encumberment will be expected to provide nursing to inpatients and outpatients accordingly. He/She should be familiar with organizational procedures, cultures and regulations.
She/He will be responsible to guide other medical and emotional support staff, for joining in decision making of some diagnosis of other patients and recommend treatment options. She/ he will be responsible in expanding health education on mental health issues, in the radios, in the public gatherings and in the Out-Patient Department and during staff retreats or conferences.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Planning and organizing psychiatric nursing services
- Co-ordination of psychiatric nursing services with other health services.
- Teaching and Supervision responsibilities
- Psychiatric Nursing Services Administration
- Provision of special psychiatric nursing services
- Unit Stock Control
- Nursing Responsibilities which will include weekly, monthly and quarterly report writing
- Do appraisals for junior staff in the UNIT
- Other duties
JOB SPECIFICATION
- Degree in Nursing Administration, plus Diploma in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing.
- Diploma in General Nursing and Diploma in Midwifery plus 3 years’ experience in managerial position.
OR
- Degree in Nursing (Generic) + postgraduate/post basic diploma in nursing administration plus Diploma in
- Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing 5 years working experience in managerial position Or related field.
- Computer literacy (compulsory)
- Up to date Registration with Lesotho Nursing Council (LNC)
- Professional affiliation with the Lesotho Nurses Association (LNA)
