Position
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse
Grade: G
Reports to: Coordinator, Departmental Nursing Services
Job Summary
The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse will be responsible for providing comprehensive mental health care services, conducting nursing assessments, and implementing treatment plans for patients with mental health conditions. The role focuses on multidisciplinary assessment and treatment of emotional, behavioral, and cognitive difficulties, including psychiatric evaluations and psychotherapy.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments and evaluations
- Diagnose and manage psychiatric conditions; refer cases requiring specialist evaluation
- Administer psychiatric drugs, monitor usage, and maintain records
- Provide counseling and psychotherapy to patients and families
- Monitor and document patient progress and treatment response
- Participate in primary health care activities promoting mental health (e.g., adolescent programs)
- Engage in mental health education and NCD awareness programs
- Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold ethical standards
Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong background in psychopharmacology
- Dedication to providing high-quality mental health care
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma in General Nursing & Midwifery plus Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing
- Must be registered with the Lesotho Nursing Council
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Psychiatric and Mental Health Nurse
