Protection Engineer

Aurecon’s Gauteng Energy team is dedicated to supporting our clients with financially and environmentally sustainable solutions, from shaping new projects, improving operations and transforming assets at the end of their lives by bringing ideas to life. We will leverage our digital and technology expertise to help our clients achieve this.

To support our increasing workload and a robust future growth strategy we are looking to make a key appointment and invite applications from experienced Protection Engineers to join our high performing team in our Tshwane/Rosebank office. This position will be offered on a permanent staff basis with an expectation of reasonable business travel.

We are seeking candidates with the following experience, skills and attributes;

  • Operating power network modelling and protection software
  • Detail secondary circuit and protection design
  • Protection relay settings and configuration
  • Protection schemes for both transmission & distribution networks
  • Pre-commissioning and maintenance testing of protection systems
  • Protection relay communication systems
  • Interrogation of relays and analyse disturbance recordings
  • Independent and proactive dedication skills with relation to assignments and projects
  • Understanding client needs and design and deliver solutions that exceed client expectations
  • Manage internal and external relations, including the interface with external clients and partners
  • Continuously looking for increased effectiveness and efficiencies in designs

Key Qualifications and experience:

  • B. Eng. / B. Tech. Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Professional registration with ECSA (Will be an advantage)
  • 5+ years’ hands-on experience in electrical protection design, setting, testing and commissioning
  • 5+ years’ relevant experience in a comparable consulting practice working on projects.
