The Tshisimani Centre for Activist Education has been established to strengthen the theoretical, strategic, organisational, creative and analytic capabilities of worker, student and community activists struggling against racism, sexism, poverty and inequality.

​The Tshisimani Activist Education Centre seeks to appoint  a Project Support Officer ​Based in Mowbray, Cape Town.

Starting date 1 March 2022.

Key responsibilities of this exciting full-time position include:

KPA 1: Project Support
Co-ordinate and liaise with operations team to ensure all logistical arrangements and related administration are complete for all events e.g festivals, events, workshops, book launches
Conduct due diligence on all quotations, invoices and project allocations before requesting approval
Assist programmes team to develop budgets and monitor expenditure against programmes budgets
Compile monthly financial reports for all programmes from Pastel. Liaise with all programme staff to discuss variances and re-planning in order to adhere to budgets
Work with the Head of Programmes to design and implement a MEL system and tools for reporting
Design a monthly reporting format for project reports in line with the MEL system and ensure that monthly project reports are received on time
File all monthly programme reports on the NAS drive.
Ensure that all lesson plans, concept notes, materials, films, photographs, video clips are received and filed on the NAS drive post workshops/ events.
Manage the programmes folder on the NAS drive
Assist the programmes teams to write up milestones as per the organizational format
Provide support for post workshops, events, seminars: collecting of all materials used (handouts etc), attendance registers, photographs take
Serve as back up for the ICTS officer in their absence with basic IT matters
Assist with developing and reviewing a Technology Policy
Supervise the Operations team: Office administrator, Financial Administrator and ICTS Officer.
KPA 2: Monitoring Evaluation and Learning (MEL)
Embed the formal MEL system of the centre in the design and execution of programs which includes but is not limited to:
Recording and keeping track of meetings and communication between Tshisimani and Tshisimani partners
Collate and collect materials, photographs and media related to facilitated educational programmes.
Collect feedback (WhatsApp, emails and testimonials) about workshops and educational offerings.
Write program reports and briefs about developments within a particular project highlighting the notable shifts and changes in a Tshisimani partner for reporting purposes.

KPA 3: Project and Organisational Support
Providing support to projects and programmes led by other Tshisimani staff members.
Assist with the development of relevant funding applications to support envisioned projects of the centre.
Contribute and participate in organisational processes including:
Mid-year reviews
Strategic planning
Staff and program meetings
Input on policy
Recruitment

KPA 4: Backup to the Finance and Operations Manager:
As and when required

Specific skills required:
Advanced Excel and MsWord Skills
Project Management skills
Financial skills – budgeting, financial reports and financial analysis
Working knowledge of an accounting package.  Pastel partner is preferred but not essential.
Minimum qualifications: Relevant post-graduate degree or equivalent PLUS 10 years relevant experience

Minimum experience: At least 3 – 5 years’ experience in a similar role.  Experience of working in an activist organisation working for social justice, and part of an activist network which aligns with the overall aims of the Centre. Excellent communication and research skills. Have the ability to work part of a team as well as well as independently and show qualities of being curious, proactive and hardworking.
