Background

The Advancing Rights in Southern Africa (ARISA) Program is currently implementing a 5-year programme in the Southern Africa region. Internews, a consortium partner in the ARISA (Advancing Rights in Southern Africa) project seeks to appoint Project officer: Youth Media Literacy

The position is situated within the Programs Department at Internews in the ARISA project. The Project Officer is responsible for the program implementation of the youth media literacy project and contributing to the broader objectives of Internews in the ARISA consortium. This position is a fixed term contract for 12 months.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties and responsibilities include the following, but not limited to below (other duties may be assigned)
Design, plan and execute programme activities among them trainings, hackathons and other relevant program activities – both offline and online
Responsible for overseeing and designing of manual for trainings for university journalism students on media literacy.
Identify and supervise Internews consultants that provide technical assistance, trainings and mentorship to local media partners in SA and in SADC region
Write, edit, proofread, revise and assemble project reports and communication material for the program
Coordinate with universities, partners, and program staff to ensure project deliverables are on track
Assist the Program Coordinator with project oversight, including financial tracking and progress towards program deliverables
Assist the finance and administration officer in procurement, documentation and subgranting as requested
Responsible for collecting the Monitoring and Evaluation data of the Project;
Managing subgrantees
Travel for project related events as and when required in SA and SADC region;
Responsible for establishing and managing strong partnerships with universities, youth focused NGOs and other appropriate partners in the area of youth and media literacy
Understanding of and demonstrated commitment to upholding Internews’ Core Values.
Any other work of Internews in the ARISA consortium as delegated by the project director.
 Skills and Competencies:
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Willingness to travel for program related events where needed
Proven ability to multi-task and prioritize efficiently
Proven ability to operate effectively in a multicultural environment
Training and facilitation skills
Strong interest in youth, media literacy, misinformation and disinformation
Monitoring and Evaluation
Possess strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
Ability to work in a team and in collaboration with other project components.
Qualification and experience:
Minimum 5 years working experience in media development areas of project implementation
Past experience or involvement in journalism trainings or lecturing
 A relevant advanced degree in development, journalism, communications or media
Experience in organizing journalists’ trainings, mentoring and or / webinars
Experience in projects involving the media, civil society, misinformation and disinformation projects
Experience in managing USAID projects will be an added advantage
