About the Foundation for Human Rights (FHR)

The FHR was established in 1996 to promote and advance transformation and human rights based on the new Constitution. The FHR is a human rights organisation supporting civil society organisations in South Africa and the region that implement programmes which promote, protect and fulfil human rights.

The FHR seeks to appoint a qualified individuals for various positions, based in Johannesburg.

Position:         Project Officer (Fixed term contract) 

Responsibilities:
Project management – management of grants, monitoring and oversight of grantees
Responsible for the administrative management of grants using FHR procedures and grants management tools
Assist potential grantees with finalising their proposals, contracts, implementation plans and budgets.
Receive and review reports (narrative and financial) from grantees
Provide support to grantees in finalising their reports and ensuring that all  supporting documents are provided, where necessary
Draw out key strategic issues from reports drawn out from thematic areas and provide an analysis of key issues  relevant for the sector
Writing and finalising reports to donors and FHR management
Conduct  monitoring visits to grantees where necessary
Report on project activities and expenditure
Develop content and support the development of content related to the project goals, including writing reports, editorials or policy briefs
 Engagement with stakeholders
Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with partner organisations working with gender issues
Participation in FHR projects as required
Participate in general FHR projects as required
Education
An post-graduate degree in the social sciences;
Specialisation in gender will be considered an added advantage.
Experience
Working knowledge of and commitment to human rights in the South African context;
Two years relevant working experience in civil society, with a focus on gender;
Demonstrated experience of working in an environment with a variety of stakeholders;
Experience of working with community-based stakeholders an added advantage.
Knowledge and skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Ability to relate to people at all levels, from government to community-based organisations;
High level of professionalism;
Analytical skills and report writing skills;
Ability to work as part of a team and adhere to  deadlines and set priorities;
Good interpersonal skills;
Excellent organizational skills, including developing workplans and schedules;
Excellent computer literacy skills, including knowledge of Word l;
Possession of a valid driver’s license for South Africa will be an advantage.
