Job Purpose:
The purpose of the position is to manage the Mining Project teams and provide strategic leadership to all teams in order to meet the project’s objectives.
Main responsibilities:
- Plan strategically to improve overall project performance.
- Identify and formulate Mining Project execution plans and programmes to satisfy Client’s needs, applicable standards, Codes of practice and Legislation.
- Monitor, evaluate and communicate Mining project schedules to all stakeholders.
- Plan, organise and support Mining Project meetings.
- Manage mining assets by identifying, sourcing and allocating mining resources for the project.
- Liaise with Client to determine mining requirements.
- Conduct meetings whenever necessary with business units to make them aware of recent developments within the company and mining areas.
- Reconcile Mine production to the monthly and operational mine plans.
- Plan daily plant utilisation and consumptions (e.g. Diesel, GET Load & Haul, GET Drill & Blast, tyres, explosives etc).
- Define production parameters and objectives.
- Authorise blast pattern designs, and authorise ordering of explosives and blasting accessories as required.
- Design site traffic management plan (Haul roads etc)
- Oversee and manage drilling of boreholes.
- Negotiate terms and conditions of sub-contractors and supplier agreements (Including contract extensions and terminations.)
- Review sub-contractors and suppliers’ performance and address non-conformances and non-compliance.
- Manage the finances of the project to achieve its objectives.
- Lead & drive cost saving conservation initiatives.
- Approve the expenditure and manage it against budget.
- Report on variances and reasons thereof.
- Compile a monthly report on the performance of the project.
- Provide overall SHEQ leadership within the project.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma in Mining Engineering.
- Blasting Ticket with 5 years’ experience.
- Certificate in Project Management.
Required Experience
- 5 years’ experience in Open Cast Mining.
- Proven track record in managing a project.
- Technical report writing experience.
- General Financial Management and budgeting.
- Loading and Hauling.
Required Competencies
- Sound knowledge of applicable Mining Laws and Act.
- Sound Knowledge of SHEQ laws and Act.
- Mining Planning and Scheduling.
- Understanding of key compliance issues in accordance with Corporate Governance principles.
- Knowledge of advanced Blasting techniques and principles.
- Optimisation of drilling activities through improved drilling practices.
- Application of advanced mine management optimisation principles and practices.
Additional requirements:
- Intermediate skills in Ms Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Quality Management skills.
- Good Interpersonal skills.
- Technical negotiation and influencing skills.
- Proficiency in English.
- Police Clearance Certificate
- Pre-employment Medical Fitness Certificate.
- Driver’s License
