The Campaign for Free Expression (CFE) is a new organization dedicated to the protection and advocacy of free expression (FoE) across southern Africa. CFE is committed to protecting and expanding the right to free expression for ALL, and enabling EVERYONE to exercise this right to the full, whether it by speaking out, by protesting, by revealing information, by blowing the whistle on wrong-doing, by arguing, debating, writing, painting, composing or just by shouting out an opinion. CFE is strictly non-partisan.
 
Based in any SADC country, – CFE seeks to appoint a

PROJECT MANAGER (SOUTHERN AFRICA INITITATIVE)

The project manager will be responsible for building the CFE’s work across selected southern African countries and may be based in any SADC country.
 
The Project Manager (Southern Africa Initiative) will be responsible for the following duties:.
Working with us to develop a strategy and plan for FoE advocacy in selected southern African countries
Taking responsibility for the implementation of that strategy
Leading, planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating projects to ensure the effective and efficient execution of project deliverables.
Budget design and maintenance
Building a network of FoE supporters/activists/lawyers across the region
Organising swift and effective responses to attacks on or threats to FoE
Working with cognate organisations with an interest in FoE
Reporting on developments and trends, developing and compiling an annual report, writing research and opinion pieces and maintaining a social media presence on these issues
Organising activities to promote and popularize the principle of free expression
The Project Manager (Southern Africa Initiative) must meet the following criteria:
Strong, tough, self-driven person able to work well with diverse organisations and individuals
NGO/NPO experience a strong advantage – relevant journalism/writing experience also considered valuable
Comfortable in a strictly non-partisan ethos
Proven ability to implement plans and projects effectively
Knowledge of FoE, media/journalism and/or the world of art and culture.
Experience across the southern African region, including travel in at least 3 countries
Communication skills, particularly in social media
Some knowledge of social justice and policy discourse across the SADC region
