The South African Federation for Mental Health (SAFMH) is an NGO that aims to coordinate, monitor and promote services for persons with intellectual and psychosocial disabilities, as well as to promote mental health and wellbeing for all South Africans.

The SAFMH seeks to appoint two Project Leaders (Advocacy & Awareness), based in Ferndale, Gauteng.

The successful candidates will provide direction, expertise, and leadership in the successful management of SAFMH’s advocacy and awareness programmes, along with generating and managing all mental health-related information for use in campaigns, by the press, partners and members of the public, and delivering mental health awareness sessions to organisations. They will also be responsible for the effective management and promotion of the SAFMH brand to help grow awareness of the organisation.

The persons will also take responsibility for developing all SAFMH’s publicity materials, liaising with partners, and will provide high-level programmatic and administrative support to the Deputy and National Executive Directors of SAFMH.

The position requires a highly energetic, organised and vibrant person to drive mental health awareness in an enthusiastic and innovative way, with a proven track record of delivering programmes and projects to a range of audiences
Experience in awareness programme development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation is essential
Experience in researching and drafting high-quality, credible content
High level of proficiency in social media management
Experience and knowledge of the mental health, disability and NGO sectors in South Africa
Experience in designing and conducting training and educational programmes would be an advantage
Graphic design skills would be an advantage
Experience in strategy development
Experience in reporting and action plan development
Excellent project management skills are essential
Relevant qualifications such as degree in Psychology or Journalism
Minimum of 3 years’ experience at Programme / Project Manager or equivalent level
High level of literacy and excellent written and admin skills are essential
Good communication skills and the ability to liaise with a wide range of stakeholders
Strategic thinker and able to use initiative and work autonomously
Valid South African driver’s license and access to own vehicle is essential
