The ISS seeks an experienced, creative and committed Project Coordinator to carry out technical activities relating to prosecutorial and criminal justice reform in the South Africa. This work will be done with a project team focused on supporting the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA). The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated analytical thinker with exceptional project management, communication and problem-solving skills.

Overview of duties

The Project Coordinator will work with a team of criminal justice experts, and will coordinate and oversee multiple projects including their design, implementation and evaluation. This will include: project planning and design; relationship building; managing project stakeholders; monitoring the delivery of consultancy services; tracking finances; change management and quality control.

Overview of requirements

§ Minimum of a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline; qualifications in project management will be desirable

§ At least five years’ relevant work experience in a policy, research, government, training or other relevant professional environment

§ A track record in coordinating criminal justice projects, including technical assistance to government

§ Experience in change management, including organisational development and planning for sustainable interventions

§ Good relationship building and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with governments and civil society

§ Excellent financial project management and human resource management skills

§ Strong planning and monitoring and evaluation skills

§ Understanding of results-based management and reporting

§ Excellent English skills, both written and verbal

§ Ability to work under pressure and to deadline

The position is based in Pretoria, South Africa. Applicants must be willing and able to travel domestically and internationally. The length of the contract will be two years, and may be renewed subject to programme requirements, funding and satisfactory performance. A competitive salary is offered.
