CWS proposes to implement a three year job training and livelihood program for 1,460 refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable South African citizens facing systemic obstacles to employment and integration. The overarching goal for this program is to increase self-reliance and resilience in each noted group, and to build cohesion within communities where there are emerging tensions with contributing factors being a lack of employment and productive work.  CWS will meet its objectives through the following key activities;  Case management, Self-Reliance Workshops, Language Training, Small Business Entrepreneurism Support: –  Integration of refugees and asylum seekers within the employment sector by Liaise for Employer Partners and Networking Activities for Employers and Small Business Entrepreneurs, Establishment and Management of Employment Help Desks: Outreach and Advocacy.

Based in either Johannesburg or Durban, South Africa – Church World Service seeks to appoint a

PROJECT ASSISTANT

Reporting to the Project Officer, the major purpose of this position will be mobilize community members and work with project participants at community level. This position will work alongside a project officer to effectively achieve the program objectives.

The Project Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:
Assist the Project Officer in the implementation of project daily activities
With the support of project officer, mobilize target communities, identify, profile and verify program participants
Provides administrative support to the Project Officer
Ensures case files are maintained in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
Organize community based meetings and trainings
Coordinator community based activities
With the guidance and oversight of the Project officer, collect quantitative and qualitative information from project activities.
Undertake actions to promote the employment of refugees’ and host communities
Other duties as assigned by the Project Officer.
The Project Assistant must meet the following criteria:
Diploma in a related field of study (e.g., Administration, Business Management, Law, and Social sciences) is required. Relevant education in records management will be preferred.
Prior experience working in a NGO, CBO or community services office is required
Ability to speak one language commonly spoken by refugees in South Africa is preferred
Good oral communication skills
manage a large and diverse workload under pressure with competing priorities;
Work well as a team in a multi-cultural environment while maintaining a high level of motivation
Effectively manage CWS resources.
A valid passport and the ability to maintain a valid passport throughout the entire appointment is required, which includes having enough passport pages for travel. The candidate should be of good health, willing and able to travel extensively in often difficult conditions, and have a high degree of flexibility. A clear MIE background check is required before the start of employment. Must be legally eligible to work full time in South Africa.
