POSITION: Programmes Producer
Number of Positions: One (1)
Department: Radio Lesotho
Responsible To: Head of News
Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Head of News, the Programmes Producer is responsible for the production of radio programmes and the coordination of live event coverage. The incumbent assigns producers to gather materials, organizes production schedules, and ensures the delivery of high-quality content that meets Radio Lesotho’s broadcasting standards.
Main Duties
- Produces and edits radio programmes for broadcast.
- Assigns coverage and event responsibilities to producers and ensures proper coordination.
- Monitors daily events through the newsroom logbook and takes timely action as required.
- Allocates airtime to feeder ministries and other government departments for official communications.
- Trains new recruits and coordinates refresher courses to improve staff competency and performance.
Job Specification
Education and Experience
- Master’s Degree in Communications with at least two (2) years of relevant working experience;
OR - Postgraduate Degree in Communications, Media Studies, or Media Management with at least three (3) years of relevant working experience;
OR - Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or Mass Communication with at least five (5) years of relevant experience in the media industry.
Supervision Received
The incumbent works under minimal supervision and is expected to provide regular written or oral progress reports to the supervisor or management team as required.
Dexterity
The incumbent should have no physical disability that may hinder the performance of production duties.
Contacts
The incumbent will maintain regular contact with:
- Members of the Radio Lesotho division for daily operations;
- Other ATS divisions and relevant external organizations, including government departments, as required.
Effort
Mental Effort
The incumbent is required to engage in research, data analysis, and programme planning. The role demands analytical thinking, creativity, and the ability to make editorial judgments under pressure.
Physical Effort
The role may involve carrying equipment and materials, operating broadcasting tools, and occasionally traveling to remote areas for live coverage or field recordings.
Emotional Effort
The incumbent must be mentally stable and patient, able to manage tight production schedules, and handle potential conflicts among team members calmly and professionally.
Working Conditions
Unfavourable Conditions
The job may require working beyond normal hours, especially during live broadcasts or urgent news coverage. The incumbent may also work in environments with noise, limited space, or under-resourced conditions, particularly during field assignments in rural areas.
