About the Organisation

Urgent Action Fund–Africa (UAF‑Africa) is a consciously feminist and women’s human rights pan‑African fund, registered in Kenya and Zimbabwe. Operating as a virtual organisation, the Fund has a strategic presence across Africa’s sub‑regions:

  • East Africa: Nairobi (Kenya), Kampala (Uganda)
  • Southern Africa: Harare (Zimbabwe), Lilongwe (Malawi), Antananarivo (Madagascar), Johannesburg, Pretoria, and Cape Town (South Africa), Gaborone (Botswana)
  • Central Africa: Yaoundé and Douala (Cameroon)

UAF‑Africa uses a Rapid Response Grantmaking mechanism to support unanticipated, time‑sensitive, innovative, and unique initiatives that advance women’s agency in democratic governance, economic, environmental and climate justice, natural resources governance, and conflict transformation, while safeguarding women’s rights, integrity, and personhood.


Position Overview

The Programmes Administrative Support Intern will undertake a range of programme and administrative support tasks across the Fund’s programme portfolio. The role supports coordination of multiple projects to ensure timely delivery and high professional standards.

Reporting to the Programmes Director, the Intern will independently provide administrative and project coordination support to help achieve the Fund’s programme objectives.


Specific Responsibilities

  • Support information synthesis to generate trends on key programmatic areas
  • Support documentation of programme learning and successes
  • Support systems for monitoring and tracking programme delivery and compliance obligations
  • Assist in the development of programme briefs and reports
  • Support coordination of the Programmes calendar, including identifying milestones, deadlines, and follow‑ups
  • Assist in organising and coordinating internal and external programme meetings and events, including scheduling and documentation
  • Provide logistical support for programme‑related events, meetings, and initiatives

Qualifications

  • Degree in Social Sciences, Women’s Studies, Political Science, International Development, Law, or a related field

Skills and Experience

  • At least one (1) year of experience supporting project coordination, particularly in administrative functions
  • Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to manage processes and multitask
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; French is an added advantage
  • Understanding of gender equality and women’s rights issues, particularly in the African context, is an added advantage
  • Ability to perform detailed work and manage high volumes of tasks accurately and systematically
  • Capacity to identify project needs, develop timelines, and manage milestones and schedules
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team to achieve shared goals
  • Strong interpersonal, public speaking, writing, and negotiation skills
  • Experience working in a virtual or remote work environment is an added advantage
