DITSELA is a not for profit institute that provides high quality education, training and support services to the country’s labour movement.  A vacancy exists in our Johannesburg office for a suitable person passionate about workers’ education who will develop and lead our education programme in Labour Law.

Ditsela seeks to appoint a Programme Officer-Labour Law to be based in Johannesburg.

The purpose of the Programme Officer: Labour Law is responsible for the needs assessment, development, delivery, evaluation and support and general range of worker education programmes, in line with the formalized work process of the Programmes Department.  The Programme Officer is responsible for subject leadership and delivery of the Labour Law area of specialization in worker education.

Employment Type: full time 12-month fixed term contract

Salary:  R462 492.40 per annum.

Key areas of responsibility:
To undertake assessments of relevant education needs
To develop appropriate learning materials
To design, plan, facilitate and evaluate education activities
To contribute towards implementing DITSELA’s vision, mandate and education strategy.
Essential Requirements:
Grade twelve Certificate plus a degree (Postgraduate qualification will be added advantage) in Labour Law or equivalent
Previous experience within the social and/or labour movement is essential.
Adult education, facilitation, Skills development facilitation, assessor skills and material development skills
Experience in research and advocacy in the labour law field.
Health and Safety legal issues is an advantage
Collective Bargaining skills
Good written and verbal communication skills
Advanced computer literacy in MS Office
A valid driving license and the ability to travel
In addition, the ideal candidate will have the following attributes:
An understanding of and commitment to education within the trade union movement
Excellent project management and administration
Ability to innovate in education design and delivery
Ability to interact effectively and comfortably with senior and junior colleagues, trade unionists, course participants and service providers
Ability to manage pressure
Ability to work well within a democratic collective culture
A degree in Labour Law would be an advantage
