The Southern Africa Resources (SARW) is a leading civil society organisation in the governance of natural resources on the African continent. Through its programming, SARW works for participatory, transparent and accountable utilisation of extractive resources in a manner that optimises social and economic benefits for people, especially the marginalised, with sensitivity to gender, environmental and human rights impacts.

SARW is looking for a programme manager who will develop and execute SARW’s programme’s strategy, provide leadership and direction for programme’s staff, setting an effective agenda and ensuring performance goals are set and met.

Under the guidance of the Executive Director, the programme manager will develop and execute SARW’s programme’s strategy. Provide leadership and direction for programme’s staff, setting an effective agenda and ensuring performance goals are set and met.

Duration: 2 Year Contract

Responsibilities

Provides strategic direction to SARW programmes and direct SARW’s response to programme opportunities in the region.
Manage programmes and projects across our four areas research, advocacy, capacity building and policy dialogue, and ensuring exceptional high-quality products.
Initiate and develop sustainable long-term research initiatives to support SARW’s programme.
Set up tools and standards for monitoring and evaluating the programme and projects.
Prepare proposals for projects funding and timeously prepare high quality donor’s reports.
Brief governments, regional and international institutions on Southern Africa resource governance and its impact on socio-economic development.
Submit papers to various conferences and seminars and contribute to local and international media.
Regularly analyse the impact of programmes and projects and conduct suitable and sufficient risk assessments.
Work closely with the Communication Officer and Executive Director, to ensure visibility of SARW through strong branding, communication, publications and public relations.
Promote teamwork, collegiality and effective communication within the programme’s unit. Integrate the organizational values into the performance of tasks within and across programmes.

Requirements

5-8 years’ relevant experience in leading programmes related to natural resources good governance and its intersection with human rights, climate change, gender, and access to justice.
Master’s Degree in one of the following Political Science, Social Science (Gender, Social Protection or Poverty Reduction Economics, climate change), political economy, Law
Experience in leading programmes in at least two thematic programme areas.
Demonstrate a strong sense of focus on results, driving tasks and projects to completion.
Demonstrated experience in successfully building advocacy and campaign with multiple stakeholders at regional, national and local level.
Strong funding proposal skills and ability to identify opportunities for fundraising.
Track record of managing large and complex regional projects which involve different players with different interests.
Exceptional writing and communication skills; and ability to organize information in a professional and credible manner.
