Programme Manager – Grade R Teacher Development Project

Contract: 18 months (with a possible extension)

Overview

Wordworks is an established NGO focused on early language and literacy development at home, in the community, ECD centres and schools. We are known for our high quality, multilingual resources and training and for innovative and effective programmes. The Gauteng Department of Education appointed Wordworks as the language technical partner for the roll out of a 3-year Grade R teacher development programme. The Programme Manager will represent Wordworks on strategic forums and working groups, engage with project stakeholders and partners and oversee the high quality delivery of Wordworks project objectives.

Key responsibilities:
Coordinate Wordworks contribution to the project through our multi-lingual, multi-media classroom and training materials.
Build and maintain effective systems and teams to manage risks and ensure the high quality delivery of the Wordworks responsibilities within the Gauteng Project.
Work closely with the Wordworks training team and GDE stakeholders to ensure Master Trainers are prepared and that materials, logistics and virtual support for Gr R teachers are in place.
Oversee contracted technical experts for audiovisual materials production, online course development and dissemination across platforms.
Work closely with the Content Development Lead to ensure high quality, SACE accredited Training of Trainers course and materials.
Maintain stakeholder relations alongside the Deputy Director
Co-ordinnate and give input into project strategy, design,  M&E and donor reports.
Ensure efficient budget management.
Develop and coordinate a Communications plan with the Communications Officer.
Intermittent  travel to Gauteng will be required should lockdown restrictions allow travel.
Requirements:

The successful candidate will be a graduate with an African language mother tongue and at least five years management experience. They will have a track record of successful stakeholder management and delivery of projects. Knowledge of teacher or early childhood development programmes and experience of working with Government Departments would be ideal. The role requires an innovative individual with the ability to juggle many priorities, problem-solve and be flexible.
