1. PROGRAMME COORDINATOR GRADE I ONE (1)
POSITION JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Deputy Secretary General, the incumbent coordinates the implementation of activities related to UNESCO Education Program in Lesotho. Serves as secretary to the Lesotho Netcom Education Committee and advises on possible areas of Lesotho/ UNESCO cooperation and report to appropriate authorities.
MAIN DUTIES
1. COORDINATION OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ACTIVITIES RELATED TO UNESCOM EDUCATION PROGRAM IN LESOTHO.
1.1 To liaise with Government ministries, NGO’s, national experts and other stakeholders on UNESCO programs related to education.
1.2 To disseminate information on the education program to the relevant stakeholders.
1.3 To liaise with national educational organizations and institutions to advise on possible areas of Lesotho/UNESCO cooperation.
1.4 To coordinate cooperation with field offices and other National Commissions in the promotion and development of educational activities, with major priority to SDG 4.
1.5 To coordinate the celebration of the relevant UN days, weeks, years and decades.
1.6 To coordinate the follow-up action to the major World educational conferences, UNESO educational programs and international conventions.
1.7 Liaise with Government ministries, NGO’s and other institutions in preparation of a national plan of action for the Education for All (EFA) program.
2. ADVISE ON POSSIBLE AREAS OF LESOTHO/UNESO COOPERATION
2.1 To advise on possible Lesotho/UNESCO cooperation in the relevant field of competence.
2.2 To advise national stakeholders on all matters relating to the Education program.
2.3 To offer guidelines and advice to national partners in the framework of their cooperation with the education program of UNESCO.
3. SECRETARY TO THE NATCOM EDUCATION COMMITTEE
3.1 To convene meetings of the Education Committee.
3.2 To write and distribute minutes timeously.
3.3 To provide safekeeping of all documents of the committee.
3.4 To write reports and briefs.
4. DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION ON THE EDUCATION PROGRAM
4.1 To disseminate to the general public by their own means and through national and local media, information on UNESCO’s aims, activities and program by way of contributing to the visibility of the education program at the national level and enhancing public understanding of UNESCO’s educational activities.
4.2 To facilitate the collection of national data and statistics relating to UNESCO’s education program for the purposes of their worldwide dissemination.
4.3 To serve as an intermediary for the dissemination of publications and documents, ensuring their translation into national languages.
5. FORMULATION IMPLEMENTATION AND EVALUATION OF EDUCATION PROGRAM
5.1 To participate in UNESCO’s education meetings and advocate for the national priorities and needs to assure those priorities and needs are considered in program emphases.
5.2 To involve the intellectual and educational organizations of Lesotho in the process of preparing and implementing UNESCO’s educational program.
5.3 To participate in the organization standards setting work and, in the drafting, and adoption of international legal instruments in UNESCO’S education program.
5.4 To assume responsibility for the implementation of UNESCO’s education Agreements and related instruments, such as the education Agenda 2030, with the aim focus on SDG4, Continental Education Strategy (2016 2025) and African Union 2063. (2016 — 2025).
5.5 To participate in the planning and implementation of educational activities entrusted to UNESCO that benefit from the assistance of UNDP, UNEP, UNFPA or other international programs.
5.6 To participate in studies on issues of concern to UNESCO’s education.
Master of Education PLUS three (3) years’ experience in an educational; setting, both formal and non-formal.
OR
Bachelor of Education or B.A. degree and postgraduate certificate in Education, and a minimum of five (5) years working experience in an educational setting.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Good knowledge of the role and functions of Lesotho National Commission for UNESCO.
• Clear understanding of UNESCO functions and activities.
• Good knowledge of interpersonal relations.
• Good command of spoken as well as written English.
• Ability to communicate with colleagues nationally and internationally.
• Good organizational, communication and public relations skills.
• Ability to work creatively and effectively with the diverse range of organizations involved both nationally and internationally.
• Skills and ability to coordinate workshops, conferences and seminars including travel and logistical skills.
• Project management skills.
• Good monitoring and evaluation skills.
• ICT skills are essential.
