Education: Completion of a degree in Agriculture, Development Studies or a related field.
Work experience: 4 or more years work experience in community programmes
Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Sesotho.
Under the immediate supervision of the Programme Officer and overall guidance of Head of Programme. Job holder is expected to demonstrate responsibility and initiative to respond independently to various queries with only general guidance. There is a requirement to use judgment in dealing with unforeseen operational problems on a daily basis. Job holder is expected to manage resources and coach and coordinate staff.
Under the immediate supervision of the Programme Officer and overall guidance of Head of Programmes, the Programme Associate will perform the policy and programme activities that effectively meet food assistance needs.
- Coordinate the implementation of the WFP supported projects/programmes in the Southern Region (Mafeteng, Mohale’s Hoek, Qacha and Quthing districts) to ensure that WFP programmes and resources are properly implemented and managed so that assistance reaches the targeted beneficiaries;
- Coordinate and communicate with local partners, agencies, NGOs and government institutions to perform accurate food security analyses and to ensure efficient delivery of food assistance;
- Support the capacity building of WFP staff, cooperating partners and national government;
- Liaise with internal counterparts to support effective collaboration, implementation and monitoring of ongoing integrated capacity strengthening activities.
- Facilitate commodity call forward, food release and actual food distribution according to monthly plans, and undertake monthly food distribution analysis;
- Ensure timely submission of monthly operational project needs to the Country office and ensure that distribution modalities are applied and adhered to;
- Coordinate preparation and timely submission of post-distribution reports (Food and non-food activities);
- Monitor and report on all WFP supported programs within geographical area(s) of assignment by field visits to schools, project sites, and food distribution centres in collaboration with relevant partners and counterparts;
- Organize and participate in Field/district stakeholders periodic operational and coordination meetings;
- Support and guide visiting missions, media and consultants to demonstrate impacts of WFP interventions;
- Identify and report to the Programme Officer any implementation bottlenecks, discrepancies and shortcomings and propose corrective actions to overcome those problems;
- Responsible for day to day management of the Field Office (staff attendance monitoring & reporting, filling in performance appraisal forms, payment requests, purchase requisitions, stationery requests, and vehicles management)
- Understand and communicate the Strategic Objectives: Coaches team in the most effective ways to communicate WFP’s Strategic Objectives to WFP team and partners in the field.
