We have an excellent opportunity for a Programme Assistant to join the Human Rights Unit within our Governance and Peace Directorate (GPD).

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing administrative and operational services to support the Adviser and Head – HRU and the HRU team. S/he will provide administrative and secretarial assistance to ensure the smooth running of HRU’s office, activities, and projects.

Other responsibilities entailed in this role include (but are not limited to):

  • Acting as the initial contact for enquiries from Commonwealth High Commissions, international organisations and the general public on HRU related issues;
  • Processing payments, maintaining documentation and continuously monitoring project expenditure and mobilised resources; maintaining HRU’s tracking system for payments, and following up on funding issues with the relevant stakeholders;
  • Providing operational and logistical support to HRU in relation to all events and missions, both in London and overseas;
  • Co-ordinating and compiling materials for the preparation of briefs for the Secretary-General, Deputy Secretary-General, Senior Management and the Adviser and Head – HRU, specifically in relation to HRU work.

To be considered, you will need to have qualifications to “A” Level, or equivalent vocational qualification(s). You will also need at least three years’ experience in administrative work and with financial management, gained within an international organisation. You will also need to be highly experienced in the use of Microsoft Office, especially in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Candidates with a university degree in Business/Public Administration or a related field will have an added advantage.
