The Southern Africa Trust seeks to recruit a Programme and Research Associate to join the Trust and contribute to our mission and ensure we have the capacity and skills as we transition to the next phase of our strategy to be based in Johannesburg.

The main purpose of this role is to assist in carrying out research across the Trust’s thematic areas of focus to inform policy advocacy.  The position will work closely with Programme Coordinators on Climate Justice and Natural Resources Management; Economic and Development Policy, Gender Justice and Youth Empowerment to deliver policy research in support of strategic objectives of the Trust. The position will also provide project and administrative support services to the Policy and Programmes department, ensuring compliance to procedures and effective procurement of services, events planning, and maintenance of relevant administrative systems.

Key Responsibilities:
The Associate working with Programme Coordinators will contribute to the delivery of  research and advocacy initiative in support of the Southern Africa Trust strategic objectives
Contributing to the development and implementation of organisational operational plans
Contribute to the monitoring and advise on the advocacy support interventions in line with the strategic objective of the Trust
Contributing to the programmes unit activities to supporting partner organizations in their advocacy support efforts
Supporting research activities implemented by the Programmes Team and monitoring developments and trends within the Southern Africa Development Community region
Support background research, compilation of content for  policy briefs on the core thematic areas for the gender justice, Economic Development , Climate change and Natural Resource Management
Assisting the policy and programmes department with all procurement requirements, analysis of requests, reviewing the monthly procurement reports according to the required procedure
Ensuring that all administrative support needs for implementation of policy & programmes operational plans are completed
Coordinating and planning events for the team, logistics support, taking minutes and engaging with all stakeholders
Competency Profile:
The candidate must hold a  relevant  Bachelors Degree qualification in Administration,
Social Science or Research must also have at least 2 years’ of relevant experience, with research experience in the policy development space, advocavy and administration skills.
The candidate must demonstrate the following competencies: office administration, research, procurement, advocacy technical knowledge, minute taking, analytical ability, policy implementation, supplier management.
Must have  excellent communication and interpersonal skills, knowledge of research methodologies, must be highly motivated to deliver positive change.
