About the Organization

The Black Teacher Collaborative (BTC) believes in the genius and beauty of Black children and the unique role of Black teachers in cultivating their gifts. BTC seeks to ensure that all Black children have challenging, affirming, and innovative learning environments staffed by a critical mass of Black educators who are equipped to maximize the power of Shared Racial Identity Learning Environments (SRILEs) to advance students’ academic growth, sociopolitical consciousness, and socio-emotional well-being.

Black Teacher Collaborative seeks to transform the educational experiences for Black students by creating an innovative, job-embedded professional learning experience for Black educators that serve as sacred learning spaces. BTC staff will facilitate high-quality, practice-based, teaching & learning opportunities for Black educators that will allow them to tap into their full potential as exceptional Black teachers of Black students. The BTC experience supports Black teachers by creating a learning experience that builds the mindsets, knowledge, and skills needed to actualize their effectiveness and impact in racially congruent learning environments with the advancement of Black children, our families, and our communities as the ultimate goal.


The BTC Experience

BTC’s current programmatic scope focuses on improving teacher impact in SRILEs. BTC has developed a distinct pedagogy, professional development curriculum and teacher fellowship for Black teachers. In the 2017-2018 school year, BTC launched a pilot version of the fellowship with 35 fellows at six school sites in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; New Orleans, Louisiana, and Atlanta, Georgia.


Overview of the Program Associate Role

The Program Associate is a central member of the BTC Program team. The person in this role is responsible for providing comprehensive administrative and operational team support and managing all day-to-day aspects of operations, and logistics for BTC programs. This includes complex, high- level administration, as well as the timely and seamless execution of everyday office tasks and responsibilities. Each year, the Program Associate will support successful school partnership recruitment campaigns and quality implementation of the BTC Fellowship program, as well as create, execute and continuously improve aligned systems and processes in support of all recruitment and program quality.

The Program Associate will work closely with a dynamic team to ensure all program participants and schools partners have an exceptional experience. The Program Manager will report directly to the CEO and support multiple streams of work across the department. Within each workstream, the Program Associate is responsible for providing high-quality support in the areas of program administration, strategy, communications, operations, and logistics. The Program Associate will develop, operationalize and manage communications systems on BTC’s Program and Innovation Team. This includes supporting the team with all programmatic and operational strategies to ensure the department meets its goals for the BTC Fellowship Program. This position is a work from home position.


General Responsibilities

General Administrative & Operational Team Support

  • Playing an integral role in designing and managing systems for internal communications across the team (i.e. expense reporting, team meetings, travel, calendar management, and knowledge sharing, etc.) in partnership with the CEO.
  • Developing and managing communication systems that allows us to send, receive and monitor correspondence to program service to ensure we are providing an excellent customer service experience that keeps current and potential Partners informed about the work of BTC and motivated to fully engage in BTC program offerings (i.e. BTC Fellowship)
  • Scheduling and managing logistics of team meetings, working sessions, and other program related meetings and events under the CEO’s direction
  • Serving as an active contributor to the overall strategy and planning process, by developing a deep understanding of the program goals, organizational goals, innovative ideas, and relevant industry trends
  • Processing consulting contracts that are directly connected to the P & I department in collaboration with the CEO
  • Taking the lead in the creation and management of the departments Master Project Plan and Team Calendar for each primary workstreams: 1. Recruitment, 2. Program Quality, and 3. Operational and Administrative Team Support.
  • Defining and managing all aspects of new projects, timelines, and resource requirements
  • Supporting the needs of the Program & Innovation team by raising critical issues to the CEO (with a strong focus on timing and delivery) and receiving and implementing feedback with a sense of urgency to ensure the continuous work of the team

Recruitment: School Partnerships and Fellow Enrollment

  • Assist the Fellowship Director with school recruitment communications and Fellow enrollment
  • Sending group and individual messages to prospective program partners (District Leaders, School Leaders, Teachers) in response to outreach and engagement happening in the field by the CEO
  • Requesting and supporting Fellows with completing, requesting technology and supporting the completion of Fellowship enrollment paperwork, as needed
  • Lead the editing of communications and promotional materials to ensure they are error-free and reflect the branding and style guidelines of BTC
  • Assist in the co-design for the recruitment of schools and teachers to participate in BTC’s Fellowship. Scheduling meetings and tracking follow-up to cultivation activities/engagement that the Fellowship Director, Program Director, and CEO are having related to recruitment of school partners

Program Quality: Development and Delivery

  • Develop efficient communication processes and systems, including BTC Fellow enrollment, scheduling and preparation (copies, technology request, etc) for BTC Fellowship and seasonal staff events (in-person staff training)
  • Develop and manage the data tracking systems for BTC Fellow communications and development and management of data tracking systems
  • Create and manage a system for ensuring BTC Fellows have an excellent experience with BTC’s enrollment process and ongoing communication
  • Establishing systems and processes to allow for the efficient execution of programmatic related activities and surrounding logistics.
