Primary Purpose of the Job
The Professional Nurse will implement clinical nursing activities in line with Prevention of Mother‑to‑Child Transmission (PMTCT) and Comprehensive Combination Prevention service requirements of the Lesotho Country Programme. The role is guided by the National Guidelines on the use of Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) for prevention and treatment.
The nurse will provide essential care packages to pregnant and breastfeeding women (PBFW) as primary beneficiaries, and to the broader population as secondary beneficiaries.
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma in General Nursing
- Registered with the Lesotho Nursing Council as a Nurse
- Postgraduate qualification in HIV/AIDS with expertise in Health Management (added advantage)
- Prior clinical experience in providing comprehensive HIV prevention services (added advantage)
- Certification in HIV Testing Services (HTS) (added advantage)

Key Performance Areas
Clinical Direct Service Delivery
- Review PrEP screening outcomes, confirm clinical suitability, and initiate PrEP at community level
- Provide HIV Testing Services (HTS) within communities
- Assess risk, conduct clinical monitoring, and ensure linkage to ART and follow‑up care
- Provide HIV prevention and treatment counselling and HIV testing services
- Deliver nurse‑led services and outreach across varied community entry points
- Collaborate with Mentor Mothers and Village Health Workers (VHWs) to trace defaulters, conduct home visits, and reintegrate clients
- Support outreach teams on ANC1 protocols, referral processes, and counselling standards
- Coordinate sample collection and laboratory follow‑up for Early Infant Diagnosis (EID)
- Track immunisation referrals and coordinate outreach BCG vaccinations where necessary
- Monitor ART adherence during household visits and escalate complex cases to facility teams or social support services
- Identify and follow up on missed appointments using facility registers to prevent loss to follow‑up
Administration, Financial Management and HR Support
- Conduct performance appraisals for Mentor Mothers
- Provide training and continuous mentorship to field‑level staff
- Facilitate and assess individual performance and training needs
- Provide line management and ensure timely contracting and performance reviews for site staff
- Report poor performance or non‑adherence to m2m policies to the Project Coordinator and HR Officer for remedial action
- Collaborate with the HR Officer to ensure disciplinary issues are managed accurately and timeously
- Coordinate Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance (QAQI) activities, including research and study activities
Data Quality Management
- Work with Monitoring and Evaluation officers to ensure complete, accurate, and timely submission of reports
- Compile and submit signed attendance registers and timesheets on time
- Ensure integration of BIO Lifestyle approaches to strengthen data quality management
Representation
- Participate in facility and District Health Management Team clinical meetings
- Share guidelines and good practices in comprehensive combination prevention service delivery
- Represent m2m at facility and DHMT forums as required
- Collaborate with community stakeholders and communicate effectively with management on clinical issues
