Production Manager
Job Description/Purpose
PURPOSE: The ideal candidate for this position is responsible for overseeing the grow-out production process to ensure efficient, sustainable, and high- quality fish production. Also to provide specialised support services to the production team and day-to-day operations offshore.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Operational Management: Supervise daily fish farming activities, including feeding, health monitoring, water quality control and harvesting. Be up to date on all Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) requirements and ensure the farm is audit ready daily.
Production Planning & Reporting: Tracking production data, including growth rates, mortality rates, and feed conversion ratios. Reporting on farm performance, challenges and improvements needed
Resource & Equipment management: Take full responsibility of all Production operations, structures, systems and equipment. And ensure proper feeding schedules to reduce waste and improve fish growth.
Quality Control & Processing: Ensuring fish meet quality standards for processing and market demand.
Monitoring: Analysing daily data from Acqua Manager and environmental profiling systems.
Workforce Management: Ensuring adherence to biosecurity, safety and environmental regulations.
Skill Transfer and Training executed to the timeline set.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Aquaculture, Fisheries Science, Marine biology. Agriculture, or related field
Additional certification in Aquaculture Production and Management is an added advantage.
and/or
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in aquaculture, with at least 3 years in a managerial role
Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for effectively liaising with team members, stakeholders, suppliers, and regulatory agencies.
Understanding quality assurance protocols and food safety standards. Experience in implementing and monitoring quality control measures is highly beneficial.
A mindset of continuous improvement is vital in aquaculture operations.
Skills competencies & requirements
Additional requirements: Ability to work in remote or offshore locations and adapt to farm conditions.
Technical & Aquaculture Knowledge: Strong understanding of aquaculture best practices, including water quality management, fish health, feeding strategies, and disease control.
Team Leadership: Ability to lead and motivate teams effectively. This includes delegating tasks, providing guidance, and fostering a positive work environment to maximise productivity and morale.
Problem-Solving Skills: Identifying problems, analysing root causes, and implementing effective solutions.
Financial Management: Basic in budgeting, cost control, and financial analysis is crucial
Compliance: Understanding of sustainability and environmental impact management in aquaculture
