As we continue to drive our growth agenda in the region we are looking for a Product and Application Specialist for Sub Saharan Africa.

This role is a dual role, responsible for sales support and applications. Support to end customers and distributors. Business development and identifying of opportunities and working to qualify and quantify opportunities with the distributor and Regional Business Manager. This role will support Ortho distributors and customers with installations, demos, evaluations , congresses, training, business development as well as presentations. The role is also responsible quantification of reagents and consumables/controls for opportunities. The area to be covered is South Africa and rest of English Speaking African countries. This function is a support and will not replace the need for distributors to have their won applications trained engineers.

The responsibilities:

  • Ensures with the regional business manager that all relevant customers are covered . Identifies with distributors and RBM opportunities to target in the market
  • Works with RBM, working within country pricing guidelines, gaining management approval as required & where necessary
  • Responsible for timely and accurate maintenance of the SFDC tool for opportunities identified. Uses data and reports to assist the Regional Business Manager in accurate reporting and forecasting.
  • Identifies and maintains a deep understanding of competitors offering and strategies.Create barriers for entry for competition.
  • Ensure applications in compliance with local and company regulation policies and procedures.
  • Work with Applications engineers in Dubai to ensure processes and procedures are followed and implemented by distributors and in own work
  • Attend Conferences and congresses to promote Ortho products and interact with end customers
  • High level assay and platform solutions presentations
  • Meet pathologists and technologists to discuss and promote Ortho solutions
  • Assay penetration
  • Visit customers and distributors on regular basis
  • Pro-active and reactive troubleshooting with short turnaround time – with with 2nd level technical and Dubai engineers
  • Work with distributors for performing demonstrations and validations
  • Determines cause and effects and implements fast and accurate corrective action
  • Support distributors with customer training
  • Stay current on administrative responsibilities. Field corrective actions/training and updates
  • Participate in growth activities and strategies

The Individual:

  • 3+ years of applications experience in medical devices in Chemistry and Immuno-Assay
  • 2+ years laboratory experience in Diagnostics Pathology
  • High level of technical (assay/methods)competence in laboratory instrument and assay applications
  • High Level of training competency
  • Advanced Excel Proficiency
  • Able to build customer relationships at all levels
  • Able to do assay penetration and marketing of instrument and assay solutions
  • Fluent in English
  • Flexibility to travel in South Africa and English speaking Africa
  • Advanced PowerPoint
  • Communication skills to converse with pathologists and senior medical technologists
  • Valid drivers license and valid passport essential
  • Strategic mindset
  • Qualified Medical Technologist as minimum or B.Med.Sci/B.Sci/Medical degree
  • Registered with HPCSA
  • Person must be based in South Africa and have all legal permits to work in SA.

  • Must have Drivers license and Valid passport for travel

  • Based in Johannesburg or Pretoria is preferred
