About the role

We are looking for a Process Metallurgist To provide metallurgical support to the core production process output team, optimize process efficiencies and supply innovative solutions to process and quality problems.

Reporting to the Specialist: Metallurgical, you will:

Product grade and plant efficiency

  • Ensure that plant and process efficiencies are optimised by continually evaluating process performance and conducting surveys to establish where improvements can be made.

  • Troubleshoot to identify whether the root of grade discrepancies are metallurgical, operational or maintenance-related and ensure that the necessary action is taken and / or setting adjustments made.

  • Monitor the quality of the products by ensuring that samples are taken according to procedure and that trends are analysed to scrutinize grade consistency.

  • Evaluate and research new technologies that could enhance process and equipment performance.

  • Monitor inconsistencies between lab and plant samples and make corrections where required.

  • Provide solutions to process / metallurgical problems.

  • Maintain and improve safety, health and environmental standards and practices.

  • Perform fair and reasonable tasks related to the job and working environment, at the discretion of the supervisor.

  • Perform afterhour’s standby duties as and when required by the operations.


    Supervising & training

  • Supervise and control the activities, standards of performance and behaviour of designated subordinate staff.

  • Provide technical advice and assistance in order to transfer expertise and thereby enhance the training and development of subordinates.

  • Compile relevant metallurgical training manuals and ensure that all staff is informed of new technology, techniques, and equipment and process changes.

  • Stand in for the Production Superintendent and Metallurgical Specialist when required.

  • Assume temporary operational control of specified plants for project installations, re-commissioning, etc. to ensure that new processes are optimized.
