Applications are invited from suitably qualified local candidates for the following vacant position tenable at the Ministry of Law and Justice.


DEPARTMENT: Government Printing
JOB TITLE: Printing Assistant (3)
RESPONSIBLE TO: Senior Printing Officer


JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Senior Printing Officer, the Printing Assistant is responsible for printing, mending, and recording.


MAIN DUTIES

1. Printing
1.1. Collects and puts the job in sequence as per instruction to ensure readiness to start a particular operation.
1.2. Collects, gathers, sews machine folds, cuts, binds, and operates the guillotine and other equipment in the section.
1.3. Folds the printed sheets under instruction to enable other finished operations to be carried out.
1.4. Folds printed work in accordance with agreed imposition to ensure that printed pages appear in the correct sequence.
1.5. Gathers numbered and unnumbered printed work in sequence for stitching and binding.
1.6. Examines gathered and stitched work to ensure that they are complete and in the correct sequence.
1.7. Saddles or side stitches the gathered or inserted sections to hold them together as a complete product.
1.8. Trims, under instruction, complete products to get them ready for dispatch to customers.
1.9. Records on appropriate forms the time taken and material used on the job to facilitate proper costing.
1.10. Checks the job frequently during the run to make sure that the same quality is maintained throughout.

2. Machine Mending
2.1. Washes and oils the machine daily to be ready for use.
2.2. Ensures safety and security of the ongoing and completed work.

3. Recording
3.1. Records on appropriate forms the hours taken on the job and material used to facilitate proper costing.


JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Education and Training

  • Diploma/Certificate in Business Studies or any related field plus two (2) years’ experience in the printing industry is required.
    OR
  • For promotion of serving officers: COSC plus six (6) years’ experience in the printing industry is required.
