Applications are invited from suitably qualified local candidates for the following vacant position tenable at the Ministry of Law and Justice.
POSITION DETAILS
- Department: Government Printing
- Position Title: Printing Assistant
- Reports To: Senior Printing Assistant
JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Senior Printing Officer, the Printing Assistant is responsible for printing, mending, and recording.
MAIN DUTIES
1. Printing
- Collects and puts the job in sequence as per instruction to ensure readiness to start a particular operation.
- Collects, gathers, sews, machine-folds, cuts, binds, and operates the guillotine and other equipment in the section.
- Folds printed sheets under instruction to enable other finished operations to be carried out.
- Folds printed work in accordance with agreed imposition to ensure that printed pages appear in the correct sequence.
- Gathers numbered and unnumbered printed work in sequence for stitching and binding.
- Examines gathered and stitched work to ensure that it is complete and in the correct sequence.
- Saddle-stitches or side-stitches the gathered or inserted sections to hold them together as a complete product.
- Trims, under instruction, completed products to get them ready for dispatch to customers.
- Records on appropriate forms the time taken and material used on the job to facilitate proper costing.
- Checks the job frequently during the run to ensure that the same quality is maintained throughout.
2. Machine Mending
- Washes and oils the machine daily to ensure readiness for use.
- Ensures safety and security of ongoing and completed work.
3. Recording
- Records on appropriate forms the hours taken on the job and materials used to facilitate proper costing.
JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Education and Training
- Diploma or Certificate in Business Studies or any related field plus two (2) years’ experience in the printing industry;
OR - In promotion of serving officers:
- COSC plus four (4) years’ experience in the printing industry.
